From research in molecular genetics to the most advanced treatments, Moores Cancer Center is at the forefront of the fight against cancer, developing promising new therapies and making them available to cancer patients throughout the region. The Pauline and Stanley Foster Hospital for Cancer Care will finish in 2016 and provide 108 new cancer beds, thus doubling the capacity to treat patients with every form of malignancy and providing the latest in technology for clinical care for cancer patients. Moores cancer patients are growing at 18% per year.

The Director of Patient Care & Treatment is responsible for creating and promoting a professional nursing practice environment consistent with a world-class cancer center. The Director provides overall administrative direction and leadership for all clinical staff throughout the Cancer Center, including the multi-disciplinary clinic, infusion center, procedure suite, BMT, radiation oncology and community satellites. The Director is also responsible for working in concert with nursing leadership in the Hospital to ensure continuity of care. The Director will oversee policies and procedures and is accountable to the Chief Clinical Officer for the UC San Diego Health System for the practice of Nursing and serves on the Nursing Council. The Director will also participate in the analysis, planning and strategic formation of Cancer Center clinical program goals and growth strategy. The Director is responsible for planning, directing and evaluating activities related to patient care and treatment, including: implementation of the Cancer Center’s philosophy and goals, standards for nursing practice, and the management and development of nursing and clinical personnel. The Director develops clinical patient care and nursing service objectives, policies and procedures to ensure best practice.

This position requires: a bachelor’s degree in related field required; masters in nursing preferred. Experience in oncology care; ONS certification preferred. Progressively responsible in a clinical setting for a minimum of 7 years, 5 of which are in a management role. Strong interpersonal and communications skills. An inspirational leader, a good coach, and a track record of developing strong teams. Excellent computer skills with knowledge of hospital information systems.
