Planet Ice Delta – Full Time Ice Maintenance Staff


Position:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, full time icemen are part of the team responsible for the operation and maintenance of all areas of the facility, including four ice surfaces, common areas, and a restaurant. This is a combination of operational and building maintenance work performed on assigned shifts in an arena that can operate 7 days per week, 24-hours per day, year-round. The work involves equipment operation, janitorial maintenance, and building maintenance. The staff member requires customer service and communication skills as he ⁄ she will have regular contact with facility users. Ice maintenance staff exercises some independence in judgement and action in accordance with established practices and procedures. Performance is reviewed by a supervisor for technical adequacy, conformance to established policy and procedures and ability to meet time schedules.


Qualifications:


The successful candidate should hold and maintain a valid, current BC Driver’s license, WHMIS training certificate and a BC government Refrigeration Operators Ticket or Ice Facility Operator Ticket; or will obtain ticket during six-month probationary period.

Working knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in ice making and refrigeration operation;

Working knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work;

Ability to operate ice resurfacing equipment, edgers, ice making and refrigeration equipment;

Ability to work with minimal supervision on various shifts and to establish and maintain good working relationships with other staff and the public and to deal tactfully and firmly with groups and individuals to ensure observance of rules and regulations;

Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used and operated in the course of work;

And an ability to keep proper records and prepare reports.

Current starting wage is $22.50 per hour plus benefits after completion of a probationary period.
