Dear Parents and Carers,
With the weather at its worst for a long time, we are even more impressed than usual with the way in which children are focussing on their learning and achievements in school.
ParentMail
In a bid to develop more eco-friendly and cost-effective ways of communicating with parents, we are moving to ParentMail for all our letters home. If you are experiencing problems accessing your ParentMail account, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Bradley, who will check your details and offer support.
Don’t forget that our school website (see address above) is also a ‘one-stop shop’ for all the information you need. Forms for Holidays in Term Time, Medical Consent and trips / events such as Laser Quest, school trips etc can be found on the website by hovering over the ‘News, Events, Letters and Forms’ tab on the left hand menu, then selecting ‘Newsletters, Letters and Forms’. Downloadable letters and forms can be selected from the middle column.
For those families who, like us, are aiming to reduce their printing costs, you can select your form, save as a word document and click ‘Enable Editing’ to fill in the form, then email it back to the school office at the email address listed on the school letterhead (above). Mrs Bradley can then pick up your form directly from the school computer and add your details to the relevant database.
Should you still find it difficult to access your emails through a PC or portable device such as smartphone or tablet, please contact Mrs Bradley again, who can arrange for you to receive hard copies of letters sent.
Parent Consultations
Please return your Parent Consultation appointments slip by Monday 26th November so that members of staff can allocate appointments as fairly and efficiently as possible. The letter and reply slip was sent out by ParentMail last Friday, but can also be downloaded from the school website (as outlined above).
Urgent repairs needed to paved areas to the rear of the school
I would ask parents and children to avoid using the cut through to the rear of the school, through the school garden, until repairs have been undertaken to the uneven paving slabs there.
The school is in the process of comparing quotes and actioning work on these areas, but in the meantime they remain a trip hazard. Whilst our school caretaker will be highlighting uneven areas with line marking paint to make these hazards more visible, the safest option would be to use the school playground for access to the school.
Whole School Talk Topic for this week
This week’s talk topic is inspired by a photograph of a Chinese couple who have been married for 88 years and have finally had their wedding photos taken. Wu Conghan, 101, and
his wife Wu Sognshi, 103, married in 1924, and have been together for almost nine decades. When they got married there wasn’t the option to have photos taken and it is something they have dreamt of having ever since. Recently their dream was made a reality by a local photo company in Nanchong, Sichuan Province, China, and the pair posed in their wedding finery for the shots.
Children were asked to think about what the photograph meant to them, then to generate ‘Big Life’ questions for our Talk Topic. Many children connected the photograph with ‘Big Life’ concepts such as teamwork, family, commitment and ageing.
In the end, children voted to talk about the question raised by a pupil in KS2: “Should people have to be at least a certain age before they get married?” We would be grateful if you could find some time over this weekend to discuss this topic at home in time for Monday’s assembly.
Children in Need Day Friday 16th November – Mad Hats and raffle
Many thanks again to all those who supported this event, which was organised by the School Council with the support of Mrs Green. So far we have raised a whopping £270.68.
Vacancy for a Parent Governor
We still have a vacancy for a Parent Governor. Please contact Mrs Phillips via the school office if you are interested in an informal discussion around the role of the Parent Governor.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Phillips
