Mapleton Park Board Meeting
February 19, 2017
6:30 pm
In attendance:Amanda Olson, Donna Donley, Aaron Harrington, Jerry Volk, Nikki Harrington
Meeting Called to order:6:36 pm
-Motion: Amanda
-Second: Nikki
Motion to approve last month’s meeting minutes was made by Donna, Jerry Seconded the motion. Motion Carries.
Treasurer’s report: Bank statement had an ending balance of $120,084.63. Property taxes were paid and Ottertail bill for $15.01 was the only bill. Amanda motioned to approve bill and Aaron seconded it.
In lieu of audit, Donna will be sending paper work.
New Business:
Mission statement was presented by Donna. Aaron suggested that an S be added to make it Parks and recreations rather than park and recreation. Donna Seconded, motion carried. Aaron motioned to approve the mission statement with the change noted above, Donna seconded, all agreed, motion carried.
Park board website: Aaron will be in charge of creating a separate website for the Park Board. The link will be added to the City of Mapleton website. New pictures will be taken this spring/summer to add to the website to update it. The link to the new website will also be added to the Facebook page. Putting Aaron in charge was motioned by Amanda and seconded by Donna, all agreed, motion carried.
Baseball field land: The city will be taking care of all fees for the land sold to the park board for $1.
Amanda motioned to cancel the movie for February, Donna seconded, all agree, motion carried.
Nerf Gun War: Nerf fun war will be held at the school March 19, 2017 from 4pm – 6pm at the school gym. Pizza Ranch will be delivering pizzas. The park board will be providing darts. Motion to purchase darts and pizza with a cap of $200 was motioned by Aaron and seconded by Nikki, all agree, motion carried. A registration form will be sent out to all kids in order to get an idea on how much food will need to be purchased.
Open Gym: Going well. Amanda suggested bringing mats for the little kids to play on. Discussion was had also about purchasing jump ropes and hula hoops. These items can be used in the future with happy days and other events. Donna is going to price them out and the board will motion for a budget at the next meeting. If the Weather keeps up, open gym will be done after March.
Happy Days: Date as of now would be August 18th & 19th. City Council will be involved. The Park Board will come up with what we want to do and have one meeting to approve everything rather than multiple meetings in the month. If necessary, additional meetings will be scheduled.
-Would like to have the street dance Friday night.
-Parade needs to be more organized this year. Early Advertisement and notice needs to be done in order to get more entries.
-The board has been working on getting quotes for varies activities and bands
-Kickball will be separated into age groups
-50/50 raffles to make money and hopefully draw more people in
-Will be talking to Eric Hillman about Fireworks
-Would like to possibly change the name from “Happy Days” to either “Maple Days” or “Mapleton Days”
-Shirts were discussed. Would like to change the color. More will be ordered this year so we don’t run out like last year.
-Trophy Money for mud run was disussed
Base ball : Registration form will be sent out and a deadline of March 31st is set. The registration form was presented. Instead of offering a hat and shirt, just a shirt will be offered with a hat available for $10. This change was motioned by Aaron and Seconded by Jerry, all agree, motion carries. Aaron motioned to approve the form with changes, Nikki seconded, all agree, motion carries.
-Squirts will be going to the Redhawks game again this year
-Possibly order shirts for parents and grandparents to buy
Computer and Printer purchases: Discussion was had but nothing was finalize
