Name: ______

Your task is to plan a Roman city on the graph paper on the other side of this page. Roman cities were well planned and organized. City blocks were laid out in square patterns. Many of these blocks were reserved for housing varying from wealthy houses to crowded apartments. Other blocks were set aside for the recreational, religious, commercial, and political uses of the city’s inhabitants. The location of various buildings and amenities was taken into consideration; for example the thermae and markets of the city would not all be located together, but rather spread throughout the city so that there was one close to you regardless of where in the city you lived. Consider style and function as you create your beautiful and practical Roman city!
