Setting Up Your Computer

If you need help, ask Bo:

Getting your NetID

§  For students, go to the Graduate School (Clio Hall) to get your NetID and password.

§  For post-docs and visitors, go to the MAE department (Maureen Hickey, D214) to get your NetID and password.

Getting Princeton Email

§  After you have your NetID and password, you can access your Princeton email here:https://owa.princeton.edu/owa/auth/logon.aspx?replaceCurrent=1&url=https%3a%2f%2fowa.princeton.edu%2fowa%2f

§  If you use email applications such as Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. You can find instructions on setting up the application here:http://helpdesk.princeton.edu/kb/display.plx?id=5088

Registering Your Computer With OIT

The first thing you will want to do is to have your computer registered on Princeton’s Host Database.

§  If you are a student, setting up is simple. Just go to:http://support.princeton.edu/dormnet/agreement.html

§  Click on "I agree"

§  Enter your NetID and password.

§  If you are a post-doc or a visiting research collaborator, you can go here:https://www.net.princeton.edu/hostmaster/cgi-bin/addEntry

§  Enter your NetID and password.

§  If you are a short-term visitor, you can go here:https://www.net.princeton.edu/hostmaster/cgi-bin/addEntry

§  Ask someone in the lab who has a NetID and password to give you access

Enter the following information along with other required information:

§  Entry Type: HOST

§  DNS Domain: Princeton.EDU

§  Entry Name:

§  PC Users: Use your computer's computer name, which can be found by right clicking on My Computer on your desktop

§  Mac/Unix Users: You can just make one up

§  IP-Subnet-Or-Address: equadnet

§  Ethernet MAC Address: To find your ethernet MAC address, go to this site:http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Address-of-Your-Computer

§  IP Subnet: equadnet

§  Wireless MAC Address: Refer to the same link as above:http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Address-of-Your-Computer

§  Serial Number: Look up your computer's serial number (S/N) from the back of your computer

§  Technical Contact: your email address

§  Building: E-Quad

§  Room: G02

§  Stone Group's HP4050N B/W Printer:

§  For PC:

§  Go to "Printers" under "Control Panel"

§  Click "Add a Printer" and then "Add a Local Printer"

§  Under "Create a new port", select "TCP/IP Port" and click "next"

§  For device type, choose "TCP/IP"

§  IP Address: 128.112.35.94

§  Uncheck the "automatically select driver for use" box and click "next"

§  Choose the HP LaserJet 4050N print driver and click "next"

§  To print double sided, go to the HP3005 B/W Printer in your Printers Folder and go to "Printing Preferences"->"Finishing"->Check "Print on both sides"

§  For Mac:

§  Go to "system preference"

§  Click "Print and Fax"

§  Add a printer

§  Protocol: LPD

§  Address: 128.112.35.94

§  Name: HP LaserJet 4050N

§  Stone Group's HP Color LaserJet 4700 Printer:

§  For PC:

§  Go to "Printers" under "Control Panel"

Connecting to Princeton's Network Via VPN

You will want to do this to have access to library sources, papers, backup files to the Stonegroup Backup Drive, etc while you are off-campus.
