Dhanbadis a city in the state ofJharkhand.It is the second most populous city in Jharkhand afterJamshedpur. Chasnalla is a small town under the distrist Dhanbad.

Dhanbad is famous for itscoal miningand has some of the largest mines in India.Tata Steel,BCCL, ECL andIISCO(Indian Iron And Steel Company) are some of the companies having coal mines in the district. TheIndian School of MinesBIT Sindriis located in Dhanbad. Among the rail divisions of Indian Railway, Dhanbad Rail Division is the second largest in terms of revenue generation after Mumbai division.

There are records of settlements in the area from the 7th century. In the modern era, Dhanbad was originally in a district named Dhanbad before becoming part of Manbhum and then Bihar districts before finally becoming part of Jharkhand District in 2000.

It is said that Chasnalla has the finest coal in all over Asia.

Dhanbad is a coal mining and industrial city and one of the busiest commercial centres in India. It is the largest city and second largest urban agglomeration in Jharkhand after Jamshedpur.

Dhanbad is famous for itscoal minesand industrial establishments; it has 112 coal mines with a total produce of 27.5 million tonnes and an annual income of 7000 million Rupees through coal business. There are also number of coal washeries present there. The city is also known for its power generation plants. Hydro Power is being generated atMaithonandPanchet.Tata PowerandDamodar Valley Corporation(DVC) are setting up a 1050 MW thermal power plant at Maithon. This project is already in operation with one unit running successfully.ONGCis using CBM (Coal beded methane) for power generation at some of the coal mines.

CHASNALLA COAL MINE TRAGEDY

TheChasnala mining disasterwas a disaster that happened on 27 December 1975 in a coal mine in Chasnala nearDhanbadin theIndianstate ofJharkhand. An explosion in the mine followed by flooding killed 372 miners. When a roof of coal caved in, 7million imperial gallons (32,000m3) of water per minute flooded into the mine. The miners were trapped under a mountain of debris and drowned when the water surged into the mine. The Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO), which owned the mine, said it conformed to international standards.

The city is well known for the movieGangs of Wasseypurand its part 2 whose shooting was done in the outskirts of Dhanbad. The movie was directed byAnuragKashyap. It was a blockbuster superhit movie of 2012. Another movieKoylanchalstarringVinodKhannaandSunil Shettywas shot in the city and its periphery. KaalaPatthar (English: Black Stone) is a 1979 Indian Bollywood action/drama film based on the CHASNALLA Dhanbad mining disaster.Legendary Actor AmitabhBachchan, ShashiKapoor, SatrughanSinha, Neetu Singh, ParveenBabi, and RakheeGulzar,it was nominated for Filmfareawards.The movie is now termed as a Yash Chopra classic.

LANGUAGES

Hindi is the predominant language of Dhanbad.Hindi,Bengali,Khortha,kurmali,Santali,Bhojpuri,Maithili,Magahiare also widely spoken.Englishserves as the connecting language in business and tourist function. Additionally,Urdu,Telugu,Tamil, andPunjabispeaking people are present in significant numbers. Several tribal languages are also spoken in the city, includingKurukhandHo. The Coal mines are established as Indians are Gujarati who Started Coal Mines since 1885 . The Large Number of Gujaratisare residing at Dhanbad, Jharia, Katras & Surrounding area since 1890.

  • Kalyaneshwari temple– This temple of MaaKalyaneshwari is very close toMaithonnear Left bank.
  • ShaktiMandir – This is one of the most famous Hindu Temple in Dhanbad. It is situated in the main city. Temple of Goddess Durga draws large crowd throughout the year.
  • ShyamMandir – This is one of the most famous Hindu Temple in Jharia. It is situated LalBazar, Jharia. Temple of ShriShyamPrabhuKhatu Wale large crowd throughout the year.
  • BirsaMunda Park – Around 8km from Dhanbad Railway station is a Park in around 25 acre land and prime picnic spot for the people.
  • Jagannath Temple, Dhansar – One of the most famous Hindu temple in the city.Temple of Lord Jagannath, famous for the car festival.
