WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

Status: Full Time Union Position (Council No. 25, AFSCME Local 1918.31 AFL-CIO)

Starting Wage: 17.50 per hour

Benefits: Per the agreement between the City of Flushing and Council No. 25, AFSCME Local 1918.31 AFL-CIO (dated January 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017)

Position Summary

Perform and assist in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of equipment and structures at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and sewage lift stations.

Perform laboratory analysis for operational process control and MDEQ discharge compliance.

Operate and control the WWTP. This position may be required to perform tasks within the Department of Public Works, outside of the WWTP.

Requirements for Employment

A high school diploma / mechanical and electrical skills

Possess a valid State of Michigan vehicle operator’s license and within the first six months of employment obtain and maintain a State of Michigan class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and the N tank endorsement.

Obtain and/or maintain a State of Michigan class D Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate.

Desirable Qualifications for Employment

One year experience in wastewater treatment

Associates degree or higher in wastewater treatment or related area

Possess a class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and the N tank endorsement

Possess State of Michigan class D or higher Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate
