Dear Parents,

Homework will be going home today Monday August 19, 2013.

Each student will be assigned a designated yellow homework folder. Students will have daily homework assignments. These assignments will be placed in the yellow homework folder to go home that night. Students will complete assignments and return the homework folder to school the next day. These assignments may include spelling, vocabulary, grammar or writing pages. Students will also have weekly spelling words from our new reading series. At this time, the spelling words will consist of 12 basic words that relate to the phonic skill we are working on for the week and 2 review words for a total of 14 words. Students will also have the option of adding challenge spelling words, which will consist of the weekly vocabulary words that go along with our reading story for the week. Spelling tests will be on Friday mornings. On Wednesdays, students will take home their new basal readers and read the weekly story for homework. No other assignments will be given on Wednesday. I do recommend that students study the weekly spelling words and try to read for at least twenty minutes nightly! J Students will also have math assignments that will go along with the lessons taught in class. I will not be sending home any homework on Fridays. J

Another item that will be going home daily will be our NEW student planners. Students will be writing their homework assignments in the planners each day. The planners will also be where I will document their behavior for the day. The planner has three star symbols to represent behavior. A happy face will mean great day, straight face will mean that there was an issue with listening and a sad face will mean that there were a few issues with listening. Parents will be asked to sign/initial the planner each day indicating that they reviewed their child’s behavior for the day and that the homework was completed. Please feel free to write notes in the planner as well. I will check these each morning.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
