You are supporting the recruitment of a new employee into your organisation by sitting on the panel. You interview 5 people and come together with other panel members at the end to make a decision. CASE STUDY #5

You are contacted by an individual who is asking for support to get a DBS check, as new policy in the organisation says all staff must be checked, regardless of their role, which for this individual is a receptionist in a primary school. When you meet with them, they show you a letter from their employer who says that they must provide a Police Check / Reference from their home country to be allowed to stay in their job, as they have been in the UK for less than three years. The letter states that this is policy. The individual explains that being a refugee they cannot contact the police in their home country, as this could make them open to risk.
