Kindergarten will report via Exit 10 at 89:00 A.M on 9/6. Dismissal

at 10:00 A.M. On 9/7 students will report from 8:00 – 2:20.

  1. MORNING PROCEDURES

Teachers must, upon arrival in the morning, move their own time card card and read and read the DAILY NOTICES displayed on the Daily Notices Bulletin Board. Changes

for the day and staff absences will be posted. Morning announcements will only

consistwill only consist of the Pledge,

and pertinent information for the day. Instructional time is

of the essence. Please do not call the office to ask secretaries to check prep changes, etc.

Strive to have an example of every child’s work. 11. FIRE DRILLS & SHELTER DRILLS

12. LEAVING THE SCHOOL BUILDING

All staff members are expected to be in the school building (Floors 1-5) at all

times with the exception of their 50 minute lunch period. Permission to leaveave

the school may be given only by Ms. Marsella or, in

her absence, Mrs. Delluomo.

If permission is given, please sign out in the Sign Out Book in the Main Office if

you are leaving the building.

Notify Ms. Marsella (in her absence, Mrs. Delluomo) if you have a medical or family

emergency. All lateness or early dismissals must be recorded by the payrolll

secretary on the timecard.

All medical appointments must be made after school hours. Also, allow yourself time to travel to your destination beginning after school dismisses.

13. FOOD & BEVERAGES

Food, beverages or a thermos of any kind are NOT to be located on or around

the teacher’s desk. Staff members shouldn’t carry beverages of any kind in the

hallways of our school. This is a clear safety and health violation. Staff

members may not eat or drink in classrooms or offices. Staff members should not

pick up their classes carrying food or beverages. Please use the staff

lunchroom only. Children should not be sent to the staff lunchroom to

purchase beverages, to put a teacher’s lunch in the refrigerator or take a take

a teacher’s lunch out of the refrigerator.

Food that is in the Teacher’s Lunchroom should remain in the lunchroom.

Food should not be distributed to students. Please do not give students

food unless the parents are aware of this action since this could cause

serious repercussions. A child may be allergic to that particular food or

a child could choke on the food.

14. ATTIRE

Your personal appearance is important to those you teach and to the

community in which you work.

16. SMOKING

In accordance with New York City law, smoking is prohibited on or around all

school property. If you wish to smoke during your lunch, kindly cross Harway Avenuethe street.

Absolutely no smoking should take place in the front or on the side of the schooll

building.

17. Staff members are not to use students’ bathrooms at any time.

18. OBSERVATIONS

Please note: Satisfactory tenured teachers may select component A (Annual

Performance Options) or Component B (Formal Observation) with the

concurrence of the Principal. Consult the UFT contract.

Teachers in danger of a U rating may be observed three times in the Fall and

19. 19. LESSON PLANS

a) In accordance with the Chancellor’s special circular pertaining to lesson plans,

. “Planning by teachers is a critical element in the education of students. New York

City Public Schools and the U.F.T. have incorporated the following in their contract:

“The development of lesson plans by and for the use of the teacher is a professional

responsibility vital to effective teaching. The organization, format, notation and

other physical aspects of the lesson plan are appropriately within the discretion of

each teacher. A principal or supervisor may suggest, but not require, a particular

format or organization except as part of a program to improve deficiencies of

teachers who receive U-ratings or formal warnings.” A U-rated informal observation

can result in lesson plans being collected and viewed as needed, by administration.”

AAs mentioned above, the Principal may suggest a particular format for lesson plans.

The format should include the standard being addressed, the element of the standard

being achieved, differentiated instruction of all students including ELL, SETSS, enrichment, etc., and

homework assignments and goal setting strategies.. Plans should be available at all times. Plans will be

viewed periodically by supervisors, and a reflections sheet will be returned with the

plan book

Lower Grades 3x per week

Upper Grades 4x per week

Science: 4 times per week (Including the Cluster Periods)

Art, Music, Health (Classroom Instruction)

AIS instruction: Period #3 (Fundations, enrichment activities, etc.)

ESL Strategies

Plans should never be left home. The teacher is responsible to see that plans

are available at all times, especially after a weekend or holiday. Plans should be

stored in an accessible location.

A well planned day promotes organization, strong classroom management and

goal setting structure.

Please note: Plans for the day must be complete before the day begins.

b) Students’ Grades

Determine a criteria for grading early in the year and record student grades in a Marking Book. This refers to assessments as well as report card grades. The rating scale of 1-4 must be consistent amongst the teachers on the grade. Every grade needs tangible evidence and should not be subjective. This will be discussed throughout the year, specifically at grade meetings. One teacher’s criteria of 4 should match the other teachers on the grade. Grade Books must be available for review at all times and kept for one year. Marking Books should include the following grades:

All assessments in all subject areas.

*Reading, Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies, etc., etc.

*Projects

*Presentations

*Benchmarks

Please be reminded that, grades should not be issued in specific

subject areas unless there is proper documentation to support the

grades. You must administer tests periodically in all subject areas at the end of each unit

or topic. You may also give assessments during a unit or topic.Current plans should be available at all times. Plans will be looked at

periodically by supervisors.

20. LUNCH FORMS

It is essential that a completed Meal Status Eligibility Form is returned to thee

school by every pupil this year. For the next three years our school will be

categorized as a Universal Free Lunch School.School forms will be needed this year.

It is also essential that all classroom teachers bring their lunch folders to the lunch room daily. Our Title 1 funds depend on our accurate record keeping of daily students lunch accounts.

21. ATTENDANCE RECORDING PROCEDURES

Maintain master class lists to be used as a back-up. Attendance will should be taken

between 8:15 – 8before 8:45 A.M. Attendance will be picked up from your classrooms at

9:009:00 a.mA.M.

by designated students (Grade Leaders’ students) and brought to the Main Office..

Grade 5 students will pick up Kindergarten attendance.

Grade 4 students will pick up Grade 1 attendance.

A child must be marked absent if he/she is not in the classroom for at

least 45 minutes.

In addition, 2 or more consecutive absences must be reported to

Mrs. Cutaneo in writing by 9:00am.

Please notify Mrs. Delluomo or if a parent informs you

that the child

will be going on vacation or traveling outside the country

during the

school year.

Attendance will be brought to Mrs. Iovino’s room in the gym at 9:30 10 A.M.

23. STUDENT BEHAVIOR & DISCIPLINE

The Discipline Code(Citywide Standards) will be distributed to all

parents. parents.

a) Classroom rules and regulations are to be discussed and

established. This year every teacher is to prepare a Behavior Plan

for his/her class and individual students (as needed). The class

plan is to be submitted to Mrs. Delluomo by September 14 and

displayed in your classroom. An appropriate behavior plan might

include, but is not limited to class rules, consequences, rewards,

etc.

b) Introduce class behavior planrules, rewards and consequences on the first day.

c) ANY CHILD LEAVING THE ROOM MUST BE ACCOMPANIEDBY

ANOTHER CHILD. All classes are to maintain an “Out of Room”

book which must include the child’s name, exact time each child

leaves and re-enters room, and the child’s destination. This book

will be checked by a supervisor. Children who have an emergency

should be permitted to go use the lavatory. Please minimize

children leaving the room before 9:00 a.m. and after 2:00 p.m.book
