Dear Vacation Bible School Families,
We’re so glad you’ll be joining us at St. John the Evangelist’s Vacation Bible School for a week of faith and fun! Vacation Bible School provides a wonderful opportunity for families to come together to enjoy time centered on Jesus Christ. In order to help this special week run smoothly, please read the following important information.
Date, Time, Location: Monday, July 22rd through Friday, July 26th, 9:00 am- 12:15 pm, St. John the Evangelist School, 10201 Woodland Drive, Silver Spring, MD, 20902.
Drop Off and Pick Up: On Monday, volunteers at the registration desk located in the school lobby will direct you to your children’s classrooms in the primary wing of the school. Please accompany your child(ren) to the classroom only after 8:55 am to ensure that the adults are ready to welcome them. Make sure to sign the sheet which will be located immediately inside the door of the room. For pick up, please go to the classroom and sign your child out. Please note that the parent must notify the teacher beforehand if someone other than the parent will pick the child up. Also, please be sure to pick your children up on time, as the classrooms have gotten quite warm by noon and we want to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety.
VBS Daily Checklist
Please make sure that your child brings the following each day:
o Water bottle labeled with child’s name (Snacks and drink will be provided).
o Backpack/bag labeled with child’s name to carry home notes and projects.
o Color of the day: We ask that if possible, your child wear the color of the day (see below).
Color of the day:
Monday- BLUE - Peace
Tuesday- YELLOW - Riches
Wednesday- RED- Power
Thursday- WHITE- Love
Friday- GREEN VBS Shirt - Hope
Weather: We expect the typical hot and humid July weather. Please dress your children accordingly: shorts, t-shirts, hats, and sunscreen. NO “flip-flop” style sandals should be worn during VBS. This is a safety issue during games. Also, if you have a fan that you would loan for the week of VBS, please contact us.
Our VBS Mission Work: We have selected Fisher House at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as our charity project this year. Fisher House is similar to a Ronald McDonald House, but serves military families. Fisher House enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time - during the hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or disease. A wish list for Fisher House is included. We ask that each family bring an item from the wish list – we will be collecting items throughout the week. Additionally, since this is a local charity we would love for a group of St John’s VBS kids to help deliver the items we collect.
Closing Assembly: Please join us for our closing program on Friday, July 26th from 11:30 am until 12:15pm in the school auditorium. Children will share songs and lessons from the week’s activities. All are welcome!
Volunteers: Many volunteers are needed each day of Vacation Bible School to staff all of the positions and make the program fun, meaningful, and safe for our children. It’s not too late to get involved. We would welcome your help for even a morning or two. Please contact us if you are able to help.
Nursery: Volunteers with younger children may drop them off as early as 8:45 am in the nursery (located in the preschool room). Nursery age children should be picked up as soon as possible after 12:15.
