Dear Fair Queen Candidate:

Thank you for your interest in the 2014 Jasper County Fair Queen Competition! In this letter you will find important dates/times and guidelines for the queen competition. This year the competition will be part of the 2014 Jasper County Fair so keep your eyes open for new dates. If you should have any questions regarding the following information please contact Tobi.

Below are a few rules/guidelines that are required by State Fair & County Fair:

·  Each contestant must be 16 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on Aug 7th, the first day of the 2014 Iowa State Fair.

·  Contestants must never have been married or have had children.

·  A county fair queen must reside in the county she represents or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in the county she represents.

·  Each Contestant must be an active member of at least one service organization in her community such as a church group, Girl Scouts, 4-H, FFA, etc. (Eligibility is not limited to 4-H membership.)

·  Candidates must attend the parent meeting at the Extension Office at 6:00pm on June 24th. Your application is due at this time.

·  If chosen Fair Queen or Princess you must be able to be at the Jasper County Fair July 18th-24th to hand out ribbons, etc.

·  If chosen Fair Queen you must be able to attend the Iowa State Fair Aug 7th-17th.

·  If chosen Fair Queen or Princess you will be required to attend activities, parades, etc. throughout the year. (Please refer to the dates and information below)

·  If chosen Fair Queen or Princess you be required to follow a dress code at County Fair. You are representing Jasper County and are looked upon by all ages.

Important Information and Dates:

June 24th, 2014:

Mandatory Parent/Candidate meeting at DMACC in the extension office meeting room at 6:00pm. Applications will be due at this time.

Pictures at Bob Hawkins Studio immediately following the parent meeting. (This will just be a headshot so you do not need to worry about an outfit for the picture)

July 12th, 2014:

Interviews at the Community Theater in Newton. The interviews are closed to the public. (Time TBD) *

July 18th, 2014:

2014 Jasper County Fair Queen and Princess Coronation at the pavilion on the fair grounds at about 6:30pm. All contestants will still be able to participate in other events going on at this time.

TBD:

The Fair Queen will have photos at Bob Hawkins Studio in Newton. She will need She will need to wear her crown and sash. The photo is needed for State Fair Competition. The queen will also have an interview at KCOB.

July 18th-24th, 2014:

Jasper County Fair

Queen and Princess will hand out ribbons, etc. throughout the entire Fair.

Monday July 21st, 2014:

Jasper County Fair Parade (This is mandatory for the Queen and Princess. We would like all other candidates to ride in the parade, but you can choose not to.)

August 7th-17th, 2014

Fair Queen will attend State Fair competition.

August 2014:

Princess will ride in the Monroe Old Settlers Parade.

June 2015:

Fair Queen and Princess will ride in the Prairie City Parade.

July 2015:

Fair Queen and Princess will ride in the Baxter Fun days Parade. (Will only need to be available for the parade)

July 4th, 2015:

Fair Queen and Princess will ride in the 4th of July Parade in Newton and Sully. Time TBD

July 17th, 2015:

Fair Queen and Princess will crown 2015 Jasper County Queen and Princess

*More details on dates and times will be given to you at the parent meeting.

**Fair Queen and Princess will also participate in a few other activities throughout the year. For example: the fair appreciation supper.
