Senior Thesis Registration Process

2017-18

  • Senior thesis written in the Economics and Business Department is a 2 block class. Thesis topics are based on completed theme at Colorado College.
  • If you are an Economics major: your thesis number is based on the theme and topic you chose to write on, your thesis number will be one of the following:

EC430: Business theme

EC460: Microeconomics theme

EC490: Macroeconomics/International theme

ME majors thesis number will be EC496; IPE majors thesis number will be EC498.

  • Thesis blocks are offered inblocks 1-6. Due dates are shown in the table below.
  • Before or early in the pre-registration period, students will discuss their choice of topic with their academic advisor. Fill out and turn in the Declaration of Preference form for your specific major to Nancy Heinecke in Palmer 114G or Gerri Anne Reed in Palmer 114J by2pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2017
  • To register for thesis you must be a declared major, senior standing with consent of department.
  • Faculty will meet on Monday, April 3 to assign thesis slots. Students are matched up with a faculty member based on the student’s chosen theme and blocks requested. An effort will be made to match students to their first or second topic choice.
  • Thesis assignments will be emailed to your CC email address and posted on Tuesday, April 4, 1:00 pm in Palmer 118 (Student Collaborative Space). To make changes to your thesis blocks, you will need get approval from your assigned thesis advisor, then notify Nancy Heinecke (Palmer 114G) of the change. The Registrar’s Office will work with Nancy Heinecke to make the change to the student schedule.
  • Preregistration for 2017-18 classes begins Monday, March 27, 2017 and runs through April 7, 2017.
  • No points are needed for thesis blocks. Register for your other classes, leaving the assigned blocks open on your schedule, and the Economics and Business Department staff will work with the Registrar’s Office to load the thesis blocks into your schedule. This process might take some time.
  • Faculty receive one compensatory block for advising thesis students, and the block that shows up on the course schedule is merely the block the professor has chosen for that compensatory block. It has nothing to do with which blocks professors will advise thesis students. Many faculty schedule this block to coincide with when they anticipate having a large number of thesis advisees, but others do not. Students should discuss with their academic advisors about topics and blocks. Some faculty may want you to have a block in between your 2 thesis blocks, so you have more time to gather data and write. To see specific faculty research interests please to our website:
