Asherigad – History and geographical location:

Fort Asheri is an ancient fort, constructed by King Bhoj II around 800 years ago.In 1737, Chimnaji Appa, cut off communication with Asheri, by capturing Mahim, and the fort seems to have soon after yielded to the Marathas. It was retaken by the Portuguese in 1738, but again fell to the Marathas, who held it till 1817 when it seems to have been handed to the British without resistance.

This is Beautiful Hill Fort standing on the Mumbai – Ahmadabad highway, next to Manor Naka and just before Chharoti Naka. There are two routes to reach the top, one through village Khodkona & another through village Medhvan.

At the top, there is one small cave engraved in rocks, a lake, a water tank and someruins of historical structures. In addition, one gets a splendid view of the surroundings.

The fort is situated in thick forest which makes the walk enjoyable. Trekking in such environs gives immeasurable joy and great pleasure by refreshingtired minds. One can feel the pleasant weather and fragrance of nature around us. Observing the greenery, variety of wild flowers and listening to cheerful chirping of birds takesus to a different world altogether.

Assembly Point:

Participants should gather at ST stand, near Thane Railway station, Thane (west) on 30th Oct. 2011 at 8.00 a.m.

Highlights of the program:
