Assignment #14

Objective:

The student will add dimensions to a technical drawing.

Assignment:

Select two drawings from Assignment #9 to add dimensions to. Save each drawing as a separate drawing file.

Set the layers as needed. Use layer names and colors of your own choice and assign line types as required by the given problem.

Construct the given problem using the given dimensions. Set the grid and snap as needed. Use the Offset, Mirror, Copy, Move, Chamfer, Fillet, Array, Change, Pan, and Zoom commands to your best advantage. Extend, Trim, and Grips can also be used.

Create a layer for the dimensions. Set the lineweight to 0.010 or default.

In the Annotate ribbon select the Dimension Style option and select New. In the box "new Style Name" enter a name to create a new dimensioning style. Press "Continue" to continue.

In the "Lines" tab set the following parameters:

Extend beyond dim lines: 0.125

In the “Symbols and Arrows” tab set the following parameters:

Arrow size: 0.125

Center Marks for Circles (Type): set to None

In the "Text" tab set the following parameters:

Text height: 0.125

Text Alignment: set to Horizontal

In the "Fit" tab set the following parameters:

Fit options: set to either the text or the arrows (best fit)

Text Placement: set to Beside the dimension line

In the "Primary Units" tab set the following parameters:

Unit format: set to Decimal

Precision: 0.00

Click OK to continue. Highlight the new dimension style name and click on the Set Current button. Click on the Close button to return to the drawing.

Set the working layer to the layer designated for the dimensions. Add dimensions using the Annotate ribbon.

Use the LINEAR option to add all vertical and horizontal dimensions. Pick the extension line locations and the dimension line location when prompted. Standard drafting practice states that the first dimension is placed 3/8" from the object and successive dimensions 1/4" away from each other. Grips can be used to reposition the dimensions to achieve proper spacing.

Assignment #14

Assignment (continued):

Circles are dimensioned using the DIAMETER command.

Arcs are dimensioned using the RADIUS command.

Plot the finished drawing using proper line technique. Object lines are plotted with a thickness of 0.020 and all other lines with a line thickness of 0.010 or "default".

Evaluation:

Refer to the PROJECT EVALUATION handout for the required items to be turned in for evaluation.
