CONFLICT COACHING – SNAPSHOT
DEFINITION OF CONFLICT COACHING
Conflict Coaching is a one-on-one meeting between a trained coach and a person who is involved in a dispute with one or more individuals. It is designed to help youdevelop yourunderstanding of the conflict, make decisions about future interaction, and learn some key communication skills. A typical session lasts for 90 minutes and you will have the option of attending additional sessions, if you’re interested. Cases will be completed within 4 weeks from the referral date. There is no charge for this service.
BENEFITS OF CONFLICT COACHING – Peoplebenefit from sharing an explanation of their dispute with a coach, responding to carefully crafted questions, and have the opportunity to gain a more thorough understanding of their conflict.
- Youcan gain a better understanding of how you and others engage in conflict.
- You can explore perspectives of others involved in the dispute, which helps to strategize solutions.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Matters discussed in Conflict Coaching are kept private and the content of the discussion cannot be used as testimony or evidence. The exception to confidentiality is any concern of a child in danger.
APPROPRIATE TYPES OF CASES
Conflict Coaching is suitable for people who are involved in an active dispute with another party, such as a family member, neighbor, friend, co-worker, school personnel or other familiar person.
THE CONFLICT COACHING PROCESS
The coach uses a staged questioning process in which you will:
- Describe the conflict to give a comprehensive view of the situation
- Understand how the conflict developed and why attempts to deal with it may have not been successful.
- Explore viewpoints of the other party.
- Create a vision for how you would like to interact with the other party.
- Learn conflict resolution skills and prepare for future interaction with the other party, if interested.
Mediation between you and other party can also be scheduled, if both are interested, and as long as there’s no active Order of Protection in effect.
THE COACHES
Conflict Coaches are experienced mediators who have also received formal training in conflict communication and coaching strategies at New York Peace Institute.
