There are “churchy” words that lose their meaning if overused and/or not fully understood. One of those words is “fellowship”. In the church, we have fellowship halls, fellowship groups, or just “have fellowship”. But this word that is translated as “fellowship” in the Bible is more than just being together and I want to explore the full meaning of it, the word “koinonia”. So I’m going to provide some texts to examine along with some questions. Here we go!

We’re going to read several passages where koinonia is used and by looking at context, get a fuller grasp at this wonderful word: Read the following scripture text and in your own words, rephrase what the meaning of koinonia might mean (word references are KJV):

1.  Acts 2:42 (fellowship) –

2.  Romans 15:26 (contribution) –

3.  1 Corinthians 10:16 (fellowship) –

5.  2 Corinthians 8:4 – (fellowship) –

6.  2 Corinthians 9:13 – (distribution) –

7.  2 Corinthians 13:14 – (communion) –

2.  Give some examples of when you have witnessed or participated in koinonia in the past few weeks?

3.  What has the Holy Spirit revealed to you about how you engage in koinonia is your life?

4.  What are you doing or going to do about what Jesus has shown you about your part in koinonia?
