Person of the Year Magazine Cover &

Back Page Product Advertisement Design

Objective: Students must design a front page magazine cover feature and a back page product advertisement using images from their photo shoot following the specified guidelines.

Guidelines:

  • Front and back page must be printable image of 8” x 10” @ 300 dpi in RGB. And it’s both to be printed next to each other on 11” x 17” paper.
  • Students will interview a friend, colleague, school staff member (who’s not in your class) and write at least a one page paper summarizing the interview or write it in interview format to be featured for their magazine front cover page.
  • Students must give the magazine a cover title and “’Blank’ of the Year” title as well.
  • Students must add between 3 to 5 article titles from the interview on front cover as well that tells about the person they selected.
  • Student must design and create a full back page product advertisement that would target the magazine audience with a product of their choosing.
  • Students must use an image from their photo shoot.
  • Student must invent a slogan for their product to headline the advertisement.
  • Project is worth 100 points.

Helpful Ideas:

  • When shooting your product use bright diffused light.
  • Shoot your images at a very high resolution.
  • Ask questions in the interview that tells you something new about the person and what makes them a “Person of the Year.” What do you admire about the person?
  • The text needs to be clear and readable and not get lost in the background image (remember it’s to be an advertisement).
  • Don’t clutter your pages with too much text. Keep it clean and simple.
  • The person you shoot must be visible, but it can be an action shot or posed if so desired.
