Indicates New Matter
The House assembled at 12:00 noon.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by Rev. Charles E. Seastrunk, Jr., as follows:
Our thought for today is from Isaiah 40:31: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Let us pray. O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth. Thank You for preserving us during the last year and renewing our strength, courage, and integrity as we begin a new year in service to You and the people of this State. Instill in each the will, the desire, and the courage to do what needs to be done. Bless our Nation, President, Governor, State, Speaker, and this Honorable Assembly as we do Your will. Protect our defenders of freedom at home and abroad as they protect us. In the name of the Lord our God. Amen.
Pursuant to Rule 6.3, the House of Representatives was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America by the SPEAKER.
After corrections to the Journal of the proceedings of Friday, August 3, 2007, the SPEAKER ordered it confirmed.
MOTION ADOPTED

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
November 22, 2007
The Honorable Robert W. Harrell, Jr.
Speaker, South Carolina House of Representatives
Post Office Box 11867
Columbia, SC 29211
Dear Speaker Harrell:
It is with pleasant memories and much pride in our accomplishments that I am submitting to you this letter of resignation from the South Carolina House of Representatives effective December 1, 2007.
As I hope you know, I have only the utmost respect for you and the fine men and women of the House. But, life often presents new challenges and new opportunities, and I have encountered one such moment. I have recently been offered a full-time position with the Lowcountry Graduate Center, and believe that accepting it is in the best interest of my family and me.
I also know that it would be unfair to my constituents to provide anything less than my undivided attention. Therefore, I am relinquishing my position so the fine people of Berkeley County can elect a new representative who has the ability to treat this position as the full-time job that we know it truly is.
Thank you for your kindness, leadership, and friendship over the years. I look forward to seeing you soon and appreciate your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Shirley R. Hinson
