Prerequisite / Must have passed Italian 3 or the equivalent.
Assessment / A teacher-created final exam, term paper or culminating project will be included and counted as 20% of the final course average.
Textbook / Italian 2 & 3 Years (Amsco, 1997)
Basic Italian (Heinle & Heinle, 2002)
Areas of Study / This course is intended for the accelerated/honors student who is prepared to meet the rigorous academic demands of advanced placement work, as it is the first part of a two-year sequence that prepares students to meet the challenges of the College Board’s Advanced Placement exam at the end of Level 5. As an honors-level course, grades are weighted.
Students of Italian 4 also have the option of enrolling with SUNY Albany to receive four (4) credits for successful completion of the course (equivalent to SUNY Albany’s Intermediate Italian 1). There is a fee for students who wish to participate in this college program.

Skill areas.
Within the various areas of study, students will be able to:
·  expand their ease in listening comprehension, in order to more readily understand a variety of topics as presented by native speakers.
·  refine and widen the use of the spoken language in interactions with others in order to communicate thoughts, needs, and wants.
·  read, analyze, and discuss authentic texts in Italian.
·  write factual and analytical reports as well as opinion based essays.
·  continue to develop an appreciation for the customs and culture of Italy in its various manifestations.
·  further develop their skills in verb tense and agreement, adjective and adverb use, pronouns, prepositions, etc. within the context of the themes and units studied.
Grammatical Structures:
Continual revision of grammar presented in levels two and three….. PLUS more in-depth work with the use of:
1. Pronouns (direct, indirect, reflexive, possessive, etc,)
2. Irregular verbs
3. Comparison of past tenses
4. Negative structures and expressions
5. The verb piacere
6. The future tense (simple and compound)
7. The conditional tense
