Discussion items:
- Reviewed the work plan – objectives, brainstorming, resources to date
- Sharon Thompson and Zem Kabani have agreed to share co-chairing duties. All members agreed that the chair will rotate every 3 monthsto keep it consistent
- Next meeting the group will discuss rotating minute takers
- Reviewed our purpose/goal/objectives – does it meet what we are trying to achieve?
- Group came up with a few key themes:
- To use an educational approach to help raise awareness on the importance ofdelaying the early onset of drinking alcohol
- To develop key messages targeting parents
- To review existing resources for parents of the 10-14 age group
- To research best practicesas howtodelivery these messages. What is the best way to reach parents?
- It was agreed by the group that these key themes would be our short-term objectives
- Discussed columns in the work plan: Areas of focus, accountability, timelines, steps to accomplish actions, and status updates – the group agreed with these headings
- Summary of scans, literature reviews, other information resources to date:
Action items:
- Sharon to create a task list that will complement the work plan for the next meeting
- Janet will send the literature review of grade 7 – 9 from Nova Scotia (The literature review: Best Practices in School-Based Drug Education for Grades 7-9)
- Janet (North Bay) and Jackie (St. Thomas) to look at existing parent resources from PAD, OIPRC, and Parachute etc. and provide the group with a summary
- Kelly (Kingston) and Muriel will review and provide a summary of best practices regarding the delay of onset and related key messages
- Adele (Simcoe Muskoka) and Zem (York Region) will work on best practices related to effective mode of delivery
- Loretta will follow up with Kerri (Toronto Public Health) regarding their parent survey ( to see if it can inform us regarding best practices related to effective modes of delivery)
- Microsite
- Sharon and Janet will get trained on the microsite as well editorial privileges.
- Next subgroup meeting/communication
- Communicate to subgroup via e-mail/teleconference
- Meet every 3-4 weeks. Zem will send out a doodle
- Meeting date will be held on the week after Thanksgiving weekend and early November
