Opened in 2005 the Alameda County Family Justice Center (ACFJC) helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and exploitation, child abuse, elder and dependent adult abuse and stalking who historically often sought help from a fragmented, disjointed system of agencies offering related, but uncoordinated services. The ACFJC now serves as the heart of a comprehensive service delivery system made up of over 100 public and private agency partners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, providing a gateway to safety, healing, and empowerment for victims of abuse. We advocate for and construct a future where there is zero tolerance for all forms of interpersonal violence in Alameda County.

Position: Navigator

Overview: The ACFJC’s navigator staff provides critical client support by helping clients navigate a system of services within Alameda County. Navigators meet with clients to conduct needs assessments in person or via telephone. Navigators link clients to services based on information provided by the client. The navigator may also provide safety planning as necessary. Navigators then become case managers to ensure clients are receiving the services they asked for. If the services were not obtained or the client was unable to contact the service provider the navigator will continue to look for other options until the client’s needs have been met or are no longer requested. Building rapport with clients is an essential part of the navigator function.

Skills & Abilities: A successful Navigator is a very flexible person and exhibits this flexibility when interacting with clients, team members, the community, or ACFJC onsite and offsite partners. Interested applicants are proactive, solution oriented and self-starters who are at their best in a fast paced dynamic environment. Applicants recognize where processes can be improved and will take the initiative to make improvements. Applicants have a reputation for dependability and are able to anticipate needs or tasks to be completed. Applicants are team players.

Applicants are individuals who people count on to accomplish tasks because they are dependable and detail oriented. Applicants have a strong drive to help others in complex situations. Using strong communication skills and problem solving ability applicants will effectively collaborate with a variety of people using a thorough knowledge of ACFJC partners and other community resources. Interested applicants tend to draw out the best in people.

Working closely with the Executive Director and under the supervision of the ACFJC Clinical Services Manager, applicants will work on-site at the ACFJC to perform the following job responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

·  Client intake and needs assessment

·  Help victims identify and access appropriate services for themselves and their children if applicable

·  Case management that includes client follow-up and advocacy

·  Links clients to appropriate agencies that include ACFJC onsite and offsite partners

·  Provide training to ACFJC partners and other community based organizations

·  Represent the ACFJC at community outreach events

·  Maintain data for various reports

·  Input client data into Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) client database

·  Serve as backup for front desk and KidZone

This position is not limited to the duties described above. Duties and responsibilities may be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of the ACFJC.

Requirements:

·  Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to working with victims of domestic violence and their children, victims of sexual assault, victims of child abuse and exploitation, and victims of elder abuse; or

·  At least two years experience in the field working with victims as described above

·  Completion of 40-hour advocate training by a certified domestic violence service provider agency, or will complete as soon as possible upon employment

·  Pass fingerprinting and criminal background check

·  Excellent organizational and time management skills

·  Valid California driver’s license.

·  Proficient in Microsoft Office

·  Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds

·  Ability to handle crisis situations in a professional manner

·  Bilingual, Spanish preferred
