Land Release and Housing Delivery

The Land Release and Housing Delivery Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory frameworks that apply to the development of housing in greenfield areas. Committee members include experienced and prominent experts in greenfield development, including developers, consultants, planners and service providers.

The Committees main functions are to:

  • Develop and advocate for policies that encourage greenfield development and address the housing shortfall.
  • Develop and advocate the adoption of policies that improve the coordination of infrastructure planning, funding and land supply across NSW.
  • Encourage the Government to release accurate and real-time population, housing, dwelling construction and employment projections.
  • Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to land supply and housing delivery.

Urban Renewal

The Urban Renewal Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory frameworks that apply to the development of housing in established areas. Committee members includeexperts in infill development, including developers, urban designers, planners and architects.

The Committee’s main functions are to:

  • Develop and advocate for policies that encourage urban infill and renewal
  • Develop feasibilities and the business case for urban renewal locations and infrastructure investment
  • Advocate for transformational urban renewal projects that would assist Government in addressing the housing shortfall.
  • Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to urban renewal.

Planning and Regulatory Affairs

The Planning and Regulatory Affairs Policy Standing Committeeconsiders and reviews the planning and regulatory framework as it applies to the urban development industry to assist in the timely and affordable provision of dwellings in metropolitan and regional NSW. Committee members include some of the industries most skilful and influential planning and legal experts.

The Committee’s main functions are to:

  • Inform UDIA NSW Secretariat and its membership of emerging issues and policy and legislative changes that may impact on the urban development industry.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on planning and regulatory reform.
  • Review relevant draft and gazetted legislation and prepare advice and recommendations to be submitted to the relevant Government Agency.
  • Direct and provide input to submissions on government/councils’ draft policies
  • Provide advice on lobbying required with government to achieve positive reform outcomes for the industry.
  • Assist in the formulation of the UDIA NSW annual policy agenda.

Infrastructure, Investment and Taxation

The Infrastructure, Investment and Taxation Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory frameworks that apply to the infrastructure requirements of NSW, how infrastructure should be financed and taxation implications of development.The Committee includes experienced developers, planners, consultants, lawyers and accountants.

The Committee’s main functions are to:

  • Reduce development levies and homebuyer charges to encourage housing production and competition.
  • Advocate for and support achievable plans for infrastructure in NSW as a way to encourage housing production and development.
  • Investigate and advocate for alternative ways to finance local and community infrastructure.
  • Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to infrastructure, investment and taxation.

Strata and Community Development

The Strata and Community Development Policy Advisory Committee’sobjective is to advocate for a regulatory and financial framework for strata and community development that is sympathetic to the creation of new communities. The Committee

includesknowledgeable and skilled strata managers, surveyors, developers and lawyers.

The Committee’s main functions are to:

  • Advocate for changes to Government policy in order to encourage investment in strata development.
  • To brief the incoming Government on the issues affecting the strata and community title sector.
  • To review legislation in the context of supporting government policies on urban renewal and consolidation.
  • Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to strata.

Environment and Sustainability

The Environment and Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee’s objective is to advocate for sustainable development where social, economic and environmental benefits can be attained, and particularly focusing on the balance between environmental sustainability and good development to meet market demands.

The Committee includes some of the industries most professional and qualified environmental consultants, engineers and developers.

The Committee’s main functions are to:

  • Promote the industry’s positive contribution to the urban environment and sustainability.
  • Direct and provide feedback on research relating to: biodiversity and conservation, bushfire, fisheries, water and rivers, energy, Aboriginal heritage, and sustainability.
  • Advocate for solutions to climate change that promote the growth of the industry, including approaches to sea level rise, connectivity and riparian corridors, energy costs, impact of a carbon tax/ETS, water availability, solar energy and renewable energy, smart grids and smart meters and other emerging technologies.
  • Investigate sustainable ways in which to finance community centres, open space and riparian corridors in new developments.
  • Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to the environment and sustainability.

Seniors Living

The Seniors Living Policy Advisory Committee considers and reviews the planning, regulatory and strategic frameworks that apply to the niche seniors sector. The Committee includes some of the industries most experienced experts in seniors’ development, including developers, planners, lawyers, service providers and architects.

The Committee’s main functions are to:

  • Prepare advice to the Government on how to promote investment in the sector.
  • Advocate specific policies to address the housing preferences ofthe ageing population.
  • Investigate synergies between the retirement living and aged care industries.
  • Undertake research into seniors living market demands in New South Wales in regional and metropolitan areas.
  • Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to seniors living.
