The County of Fresno will be issuing Requests for Quotations (RFQ) and/or Requests for Proposals (RFP) for Adult Education - Special Needs Teacher for Pathways to Recovery. To contain reproduction and mailing costs, we will mail the RFQ/RFP only to those organizations that request them.
The interest form must be received by FAX or mail at Fresno County Purchasing by 5:00 p.m.,January 18, 2013.

The County of Fresno Purchasing, on behalf of the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH), Substance Abuse Services Division, is seeking a qualified Adult Education - Special Needs Teacher for the Pathways to Recovery program, hereinafter referred to as Pathways. Pathways provides substance abuse treatment for pregnant and parenting women; mental health services for CalWORKs female and male referrals; and intensive treatment services for female and male participants who have co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. Pathways’ focus is on helping clients develop the knowledge, skills and hope necessary to assist them in applying their wellness and recovery plan at school, training and/or work.
The following are the minimum qualifications for Adult Education - Special Needs Teacher for Pathways:
- Candidate must have State credentialing in Adult Education Teaching and a bachelor’s degree in Social Work that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.
- Candidate must have a minimum of 15 years experience working with clients with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.
- Candidate must have demonstrated experience teaching and skills needed in working with clients with a mental health diagnosis and substance abuse disorders; demonstrated ability to conduct classes of 10 to 35 students in a safe and orderly manner; and a demonstrated ability to conduct classes and develop curriculum that address skills needed in overcoming obstacles for a successful personal and work life such as:
- WRAP: a Wellness Recovery Action Plan of mental health and addition recovery.
- Woman in Recovery, Stephanie Covington workbook.
- Basics of Illness Management and Recovery workbook.
- Work preparation for successful employment (classes shall support work preparation).
- Anger Management for substance abuse and mental health clients.
- Myers-Briggs Career Assessment Inventory.
- Personal learning styles and effective study practices for learning.
- Problem solving.
- Goal-setting: personal, school and career.
- Boundaries for all areas of life.
- Cornell note-taking
- Social skills for personal and work life.
- Contractor will maintain regularly scheduled hours during Pathways business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.), scheduling 4 hours maximum daily.
- Specific skills and/or requirements include, but are not limited to:
- The ability to work with new students daily.
- The ability to work with clients with diverse cultural and sexual backgrounds.
