Do I have to tryouts both days? Yes- swimmers are expected both days

Do I have to be able to swim? Yes- You must be able to swim the length of the pool without stopping in order to try out.

Do I have to have a physical? Yes

How many kids make it? 25 boys and 25 girls

What if I can’t swim any stroke but freestyle? It all depends on the number of kids who tryout. Sometimes- only freestyle is enough to secure a spot- other years I’ve had to cut over ½ the potential swimmers.

Do I have to wear a speedo? No- you do NOT have to wear a speedo or jammer (bike short style). However- regular swim trunks act similar to a parachute in the water and will slow you down.

May I wear a 2 piece bathing suit (bikini) - Absolutely not.

Do I have to bring my own goggles? Yes-

Is there a team suit? Yes team suits will be available beginning after tryouts (4/9) at Lane 4 on Kuykendahl/2920.

When will I find out the tryout results? Results will be available before school Thursday 4/9.

When does practice begin? Practice begins 4/13 at 7:00 am at KCHS pool.

I swim year round. Do I have to come to practice? No- If you are attending year round practices- I would prefer you go to that practice instead of mine. The exception- the week prior to district- I need all swimmers there.

Will we take a bus to away meets? Yes transportation will be provided TO away meets. No transportation will be provided back to Schindewolf after the meets. Please make arrangements to be picked up after meets. *NOTE* All swimmers must wear clothes over their suits on the bus.

How many events can I swim? Swimmers may be entered in either 2 individual and 2 relays OR 1 individual and 3 relays.

When will I know if I make the meet? All swimmers who earn a spot on the team will swim at every meet. (The number of events may be limited.) Entries will be posted on the swim board outside room 403 by Tuesday of meet week.

Can I request an event? Yes. Swimmers are allowed to request an event. There is a stroke request book in my room and I will try to honor 1 event request per swimmer. (There are no stroke requests for district)

Do you provide caps and suits? Yes. Team caps will be provided. Suits must be purchased from the swim shop.

Is there a fee involved? There is no fee involved in swimming.

What should I bring to practice/meets? Do NOT eat dairy prior to practice. Usually a granola bar or a piece of fruit is best. Bring water, a towel, goggles, your clothes for school and all of your books to the Klein Collins pool at 7:00 am. For meets- Please bring a cooler with snacks and lots of water. There is only water available for officials.

How will I know my heat/lane? Heat and Lanes are posted by the high school coach once we arrive at the meet. Our trainers can provide you with that information once we arrive.

Where can I find information? Additional information can be found on my website- I teach Science (Mechelle Vindiola) or on the Swim board outside my classroom. (Room 403)

What if I can’t attend a meet or am ill? I understand things happen- kids have UIL or they come down with something etc. If you know in advance you will be unable to attend a meet- please send me an email. It is a huge problem for my trainers to have to reseed relays on deck. If you are ill- please have your parents notify me so I can excuse you from practice.

What happens if I fail? You will be suspended from the team. You are a student first.

Is there a parent meeting? Yes. The parent meeting will be April 13 at 6:30 pm in the Schindewolf Gym.

How long are the meets? Generally about an hour and a half to two hours. District will be much longer- approximately 4 hours.

Will everyone get to swim on a relay? A and B relay spots are awarded based on fastest times. C relays will be rotated so everyone has a chance. If the season is almost over and you still have not had the chance to swim on a relay- please let me know!!!ONLY A RELAYS SWIM AT DISTRICT.
