6. Explain how freedmen were treated during the Democrats control of Georgia. / The condition of freedmen deteriorated under the rejuvenated democrat rule in south and it took another 100 years for Blacks to gain true equality; blacks were further victimize legally in the south by whites.
7. Who were the Bourbon Triumvirates? Why were they given this name? / Three Democrats~ Joseph E. Brown, Alfred H. Colquitt, and John B. Gordon who lead Georgia through the “Redemption” period They were called the Bourbon Triumvirate or “the ruling class of three”.
8. What two ideologies did the Bourbon’s believe in? / The Bourbon Triumvirates believed that Georgia needed a stronger economy tied with the industrial north, and they believed in white supremacy.
9. What things did the Bourbon Triumvirate improve in Georgia? What things were not improved? / The Bourbon Triumvirate improved the state’s war debts by reducing it, lowered taxes, and expanded business and industry. They did little to improve or help the poor, improve education, reform factory working conditions, improve mental hospitals, or improve the lives of blacks or convicts.
10. Explain how the Felton’s policies differ from the Bourbons? / The Felton’s worked for fairness and justice for Georgians. Mrs. Felton worked for women suffrage (voting), temperance (anti-alcohol) movements in Georgia, and disagreed with the Convict Lease System.
