Honors English II: Julius Caesar Characters ______
Memorization and ReWrite Assignment Act ______Scene _____ Page ____
Name: ______Period: ______
1. Choose a scene or part of a scene from Julius Caesar to memorize and recite, rewrite, and read again to the class.
2. The minimum number of lines that you will read and rewrite is 15. You may do more.
3. Report your choice to me. Note the Act, Scene, and lines of choice in writing on this handout.
4. You do not have to do a word for word and line for line rewrite; however, try to use approximately the same number of words in your rewrite that were in the original text. Try to achieve the same line cadence or rhythm. You may add some ideas of your own. Tailor your lines to how someone might speak in the setting you choose.
5. When you recite your lines and read your rewrite, do so with emotion and appropriate gestures. Use props, costumes, and an accent, if appropriate.
6. If you have more than one part, write the names of the characters on the board and stand under that character’s name when you read. Also, use your voice effectively to show the different characters you are portraying.
7. The project is worth 55 points: 15 for the first reading (memorization), 25 for the rewrite, 15 for the final reading of your rewrite. Type your rewrite, since the piece is a potential choice for your finished portfolio. Practice your readings ahead of time and strive for appropriate volume, clarity of speech and proper emotion, as well as voice.
