A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MRS. KATIE WEST STARKS ETHERIDGE OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF MOTHER’S DAY FOR HER EXCEPTIONAL DEVOTION TO HER FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND CHURCH.

Whereas, Mrs. Katie West Starks Etheridge was born in the Town of Ward, South Carolina, the daughter of James and Henrietta West; and

Whereas, she was educated in the public schools of Richland County, and received a nursing assistant certificate from Columbia Vocational Institute; and

Whereas, Mrs. Etheridge joined New Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1928 where she was a member of the church’s first junior choir, the Willing Workers, and in the senior musical choir for fortynine years; served as a treasurer of the Missionary Society and Deaconess Board for twentyfive years; worked faithfully with her husband Deacon Dan Etheridge while he was Sunday School Superintendent and is still an active Sunday School member; was a member of the Pulpit Aide Club and Middle Age Club; is a member of the Missionary, Deaconess, and Elderly Ministry; and is a member of the Mt. Hebron Women Auxiliary; and

Whereas, she is a member of the Eastern Star and loves to play the piano, organ, sing, and travel; and

Whereas, Mrs. Etheridge is a retired employee of the South Carolina Mental Health Department; and

Whereas, she is the mother of one son, Reverend Dr. Willie L. Starks, Sr., one daughter, Emma Jenkins, has four grandchildren, and has two great grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Etheridge is an outstanding individual of great faith, hope, and love who is respected by all who know her, and is highly deserving of recognition on this happy and heartfelt occasion of Mother’s Day. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mrs. Katie West Starks Etheridge of Richland County on the occasion of Mother’s Day for exceptional devotion to her family, friends, and church.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Katie West Starks Etheridge.
