JOB PURPOSE

To ensure that the question papers for ESOL Skills for Life qualifications at all levels meet the requirements of the specifications and to take responsibility for maintaining standards across centres and over time.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Accountabilities:
·  Accountable for maintaining standards for Gateway Qualifications ESOL Skills for Life qualifications and test specifications to maintain standards across all levels, year on year.
Responsible for:
·  supervising the construction of question papers and mark schemes to ensure that they are at the appropriate standard and providing guidance to assessment writers.
·  Conducting assessment review meetings and providing feedback to Gateway Qualifications staff and associates
·  approving question papers written by contracted associates, ensuring that they cover the assessment criteria as set out in the qualification specifications and include the appropriate content.
·  writing assessments in one or more skill area across all levels.
·  Completing centre ESOL Skills for Life qualification inductions.
·  Providing guidance to centres on contextualisation of assessment tasks
·  Producing exemplification of standards for Centres and leading Centre training sessions.
·  Training ESOL Standards Verifiers, Assessment Writers, Reviewers and Markers
·  Overseeing the standardisation of internally assessed work and all externally marked assessments.
·  Reviewing outcomes of data analysis of results and providing recommendations to Gateway Qualifications for any changes to assessments.
·  Producing the annual Chief Examiner’s report to centres.

Qualifications

·  Degree or equivalent qualifications related to the area/ target group/ sector to be quality assured

·  Teaching qualification.

Experience

·  Sound understanding and experience of assessment and QA processes and procedures ideally gained through work for an awarding organisation

·  Experience of writing and marking of ESOL assessments (minimum of 3 years)

·  Recent experience of post 16 education
