Mr. Phelan
Poetry Presentations: You and one partner will sign up to become experts on one of the poets on the following schedule. Students may begin signing up in person with Mr. Phelan beginning 2/20/2016 on a first come basis.
You will study the poet's biography, historical/literary context, and poetry, and then complete the following.
1. You will assign 3-4 poems for students to read and annotate, giving them some direction on what to focus on in their annotations (theme, topic, poetic elements, etc.)
2. You will create and deliver either a Prezi or PPT presentation discussing the poet's life and historical/ literary context.
3. You will memorize and recite around 15 lines of one of the poet's poems (each student must memorize their own 15 lines).
4. You will teach and lead a close reading /discussion or activity of 1-2 poems (Depending on length and complexity) focusing on 2-3 poetic/rhetorical/literary elements that are significant to the work.
5. You will write and post a blog post (more directions to come) explicating the same poem or poems you focused in class (500-750 words).
***Your entire presentation/lesson should be approximately 40 minutes (Give or take 10 minutes).
