Northeast Ohio school board member nominated as OSBA president-elect

COLUMBUS — Tri-County ESC and Wayne County Schools Career Center board member Susie Lawson was recently selected as the Ohio School Boards Association’s (OSBA) 2014 president-elect nominee. If elected during OSBA’s statewide conference in November, she will become OSBA president in 2015, following her term as president-elect.

Lawson, a 26-year school board veteran, has served OSBA in multiple capacities at the regional, state and national levels. She currently serves on the Credentials and Audit committees, is a member of the Federal Relations Network and Student Achievement Leadership Team and is a Board Member Mentor and OSBA Ambassador for Education. Previously, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and Capital Conference Planning Task Force. She is a member of the Northeast Region’s Executive Committee and was the region’s president in 2007 and 2011.

Lawson earned the OSBA Master Board Member Award in 2006, a lifetime distinction, and has received numerous OSBA Awards of Achievement. In 2002, she was named to the All-Ohio School Board, OSBA's highest honor.

Lawson, a Doylestown resident, has been active with many educational committees, including the Wayne County Schools Career Center finance, legislative, curriculum and negotiation committees, the Tri-County ESC Legislative Committee, as well as with staff and student recognition programs at both schools. She was a founding member of the Tri-County Grass Roots Advocacy Group and has served as a judge at the National Skills USA contest.

Lawson also represented Ohio as a delegate to the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Delegate Assembly and has served with other NSBA groups.
