TASK: Create a t-shirt design for yourself.

Due Date: To be determined. Check class website.

YOU WILL NEED TO:

Create 3 thumbnail sketch ideas of a t-shirt design.

  • Create a final of your best ideasin Photoshop or Illustrator.
  • Keep All of Your Work In PSD / Layers form.

OUTCOME: Students work to create a mainstay of commercial art work – the t-shirt. This exercise is to get used to the elements of designing for print on t-shirts.

YOU WILL NEED TO # 1:

Brainstorm ideas for the shirt and slogan

  • Can be pretty much any genre or area you like.
  • No weapons, drugs, gratuitous sex or tasteless designs

YOU WILL NEED TO # 2:

Create three thumbnail sketchideas for each of your t-shirt andslogan ideas
  1. Create three COLOR thumbnail sketches using the t-shirt thumbnail paper. Make sure they’re numbered and show values.FOUR COLORS ONLY, no gradients. Shirt color can add a color.
  2. Once you have your thumbnails finished, see me to discuss your ideas.

YOU WILL NEED TO # 3:

Create your final in Photoshop
  1. Once your ideas have been critiqued, create the artwork necessary for your shirt to be printed.
  2. 8 ½” x 11” 300 dpi file in Photoshop (or regular Illustrator file if using Illustrator)
  3. Design should be FOUR COLORS ONLY. No gradients
  4. Identify the font(s) used as well
  5. Identify both colors PANTONE ID #.

Click on one of the two colors you’ve chosen.

In The Color Picker Section click on COLOR LIBRARIES… note the Pantone #

TIPS TO YOU WILL NEED TO # 4:

Upload a version of your artwork to one of the online t-shirt site.s Get a quote on how much your shirt would cost.
  1. Sign up for an account at any of the online t-shirt design sites. Some are listed on the class site.
  2. Upload the necessary artwork they require to look at your shirt in demo form and price out how

much it would cost. If you like it, save it and order it yourself or have your parents order one.

  1. Include the price quote and website you used on your Proof Sheet.

  1. Create a proof sheet of what your design will look like.

TIPS TO YOU WILL NEED TO # 6:

Create Color separations using Photoshop
  1. Following the demonstrations in class, create separations for each of your t-shirt colors.
  2. Remember to use “layer style” “color overlay,” and select the darkest BLACK for each color.

REMEMBER

  • Large BOLD Fonts work best
  • Design In A Shape. (Circle, Oval, Square, Specialty Shape)
  • Intricate, small designs are best when made large.
