Building your own fitness plan
Unit Summary
Students will research topics such as circuit training, target training, Maximum heart rate, target heart rate, and cardiovascular training. Students will be analyzing other fitness regimens and recognizing weak points and strong points of each regimen. Students will also research various terms and ideas on the internet and books to increase their understanding of different types of fitness regimens. Students will create a 4 week fitness regimen in groups of two that will involve many different twenty first century skills.

Targeted Content Standards and Benchmarks
Standard One : Personal health and Fitness
Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain health.
Standard Two: A Safe and Healthy Environment
Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Standard Three : Resource Management
Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources.
Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to create realistic goals in correlation with the type of program that they create. Students will be able to analyze different types of regimens and point out strengths and weaknesses of each regimen.
Students will be able to collaborate and cooperate with their partner eighty percent of the time.
Students will be able to produce a four week fitness regimen that has varied activities and weight training aspects concentrating on various muscle groups and cardiovascular health.

·  Ask questions of students’ knowledge 3 weeks prior to beginning the unit to assess average starting points of most of the students / ·  / ·  Assessment of the students ability to work together and collaborate to create their fitness regimen. / ·  Informal assessment of students ability to identify what type of regimen will produce what type of results / ·  The teacher will evaluate the program based on depth, correlation to goals, and variation / ·  The students will present to the class what type of regimen they have developed and the key points in the regiment to help the students achieve their fitness goals.
Assessment Summary
The True-False flash cards will provide a strong pre assessment to let the instructor know the students level of understanding entering the unit. Assessing the goals in correlation to the regimen will ensure that the students are headed in the right direction. Analyzing other regimens will help the students to understand how fitness regimens are to be developed and identify the strengths and weaknesses in each. They also will see how their goals tie in to different types of fitness plans They should focus on various parts of the Physical Best Assessment or skill related fitness aspects.

Prerequisite Skills
Knowledge of sets and reps during weight lifting. Knowledge of fitness room etiquette. Knowledge of basic research skills. Basic Microsoft Excel Skills.

Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction
Special Needs Students / Students with learning difficulties learning objectives may be modified to create more obtainable objectives. Students may need to create a 2 week program instead of a four week. Students may receive help during the research process and typing process
Nonnative Speakers / Support from the ESL teacher.
Gifted/Talented Students / Add diet ramifications to the fitness regimen, and how it will benefit your results.
