Holiday Extravaganza

Our students spent the afternoon of December 16 making crafts for some Trout Lake community members. The older students paired up with the younger students, and created holiday cards, snowflakes, blankets, felt soap, cocoa mixes, and pancake mixes. Ten food baskets were also assembled from food that had been donated over the last month. Then, the goodies and food baskets were delivered by students to over 100 people in our community. It was a great way to start the Winter Break.

Bus Safety Tips

Here is a good Bus Safety reminder for students:

Morning Bus Stops:

1.  Always stand at least 10 feet back from the road in case the bus starts to slide as it comes to a stop.

2.  Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, the red lights are flashing and the door is open before approaching the bus. If you have to cross the street, wait for the driver to signal that it is safe to cross.

3.  Bad roads may delay route, so please be patient if we are later than usual, and dress warmly.

Afternoon Bus Stops:

1.  Stay in your seats until the bus comes to a complete stop.

2.  If you cross the street to your home, wait for the bus driver to signal that it is safe to do so.

3.  Once you get off the bus go straight to your house.

Student Pickup at School:

We have noticed many younger students running between the buses to get in their cars. This is very dangerous for many reasons. We would like to ask parents to have your child wait in front of the school for you to come and get them. There are a lot of cars and buses coming and going at the end of the school day. We are all very concerned about safety and would appreciate your help with this.

Operation Help Honduras

Yeltsin, an eighth grade student at Trout Lake School, sits with some of the items that have been donated to the school children who live in the village in Honduras where Yeltsin is from. The 7th and 8th graders at Trout Lake School have organized andsponsored this community wide effort by collecting clothing, school supplies, and first aid items. Thank you!!

Middle School DI Team

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination (DI) is an educational organization that provides students an opportunity to be creative, and to learn problem solving and team building skills. DI is connected with over 125,000 students within the U.S. and over 30 foreign countries. This year, Trout Lake School is proud to have two Destination Imagination teams.

Our third through fifth grade elementary team members are Clara, Rain, Naomi, Lillie, Sean, Liz and Amanda. The team is coached by Meg Vollema and assisted by Ashlee Powell. Our sixth through eighth grade middle school team members are Sami, Emma Leigh, Seth, Colton, Kayla, Genesis, and Shawn. The team is coached by Laurie Sherburne and assisted by Kim Ballard.

Both teams chose a challenge called, “Coming Attractions: Fine Arts”. Each team will need to present a movie trailer involving characters from at least two nations, design a cinematic special effect and feature it in the movie trailer, and create an original soundtrack that compliments the movie trailer. The focus of this challenge is centered on storytelling, international cultures, cinematic special effects, music and sounds, theater arts, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.

If you would like to watch the teams perform their dress rehearsal in front of the students and staff at school, please come on February 28 at 9:15 AM. The regional competition is on March 3 in Issaquah, the state competition is on March 31 in Wenatchee, and the global competition is May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

We would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement for our teams as they work hard on their challenges.
