A scheduled meeting of the VTEA Deans & Directors Council convened at 8:00 a.m. in

Library 202.

Funding allocations for 2000/01

The funding allocations for the upcoming fiscal year were distributed to each participant. Arvid Spor explained that the allocations were based upon a VTEA proposal review committee of five people. Three individuals, Arvid Spor’s counterparts, were invited from Long Beach, Cerritos and Glendale Colleges. The other two members were Janice Ely, Director of Accounting and Arvid Spor, Director of Workforce Education. The five individuals decided the funding allocation based on the guidelines of the VTEA eight required uses and the level of program improvement.

Equipment requisition deadline

Arvid Spor announced that for the fiscal year of 2000/2001 a requisition deadline will be designated by which at least 80% of equipment, furniture, computers and software must be encumbered and entered in the Datatel system. This deadline is September 30, 2000. Linda Arroyo emphasized that the program enhancement goal can only be achieved if the divisions are able to get the requested materials as soon as possible.

VTEA Council fall meeting dates

The VTEA Council agreed on meeting on a bi-monthly basis during the summer and fall. The following dates were set for the rest of the year:

August 15, 2000 at 8:00 a.m. in Library 202

October 17, 2000 at 8:00 a.m. in Library 202

December 5, 2000 at 8:00 a.m. in Library 202

Four-year plan due by October 31, 2000

The VTEA four-year plan will be sent to the Chancellor’s Office at the end of October. Arvid Spor would like to meet with the VTEA deans and directors individually to discuss which of their programs they want to improve in the next four years or if they have any new programs they intend to develop. Arvid Spor stated that the Chancellor’s Office had mandated the necessity to consult with industry representatives. He would like to meet with El Camino College advisory committee chairs to add their input to the plan.

Upcoming SCANS Workshops

Ron Way mentioned the usefulness of the three-part SCANS workshop, which was offered in April and May for El Camino College faculty. The Council proposed the idea of changing the name of the workshop because the current title did not attract faculty from the academic programs. Roger Quadhamer mentioned that the workshop might attract more faculty attention if it was called ‘Critical thinking in the workplace’. Upcoming SCANS workshops will be planned for the beginning of the semester. If possible, the SCANS workshops will be added to the Faculty/Staff Flex Day activities.

Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 9 a.m.
