Young Life Fayette County’s FIRST EVER Annual Clay Shoot
November 10, 2017
Frequently Asked Questions
1)What’s a clay shoot? – It’s a bunch of YL supporters getting together with shotguns to shoot at a bunch of clay pigeons on a Sporting Clays course to raise money for Young Life here in Fayette County.
2)What’s a sporting clays course? – Think of it as a cross between golf and skeet shooting. We will have about 12-15 stations, and at each station, you will see two different types of shots presented. It may be a clay pigeon being thrown from left to right; it may be from right to left; it may be coming at you or going away from you; it may be thrown through the trees or out over a pond;or it may be rolled along the ground like a running rabbit.
3)Can I walk the course? – Yes, the course is well under a mile long in its entirety with stops at each of the 12 stations in between. It is an enjoyable course to walk, and the plantation will have some golf carts that can be rented for any shooter who may have difficulty walking.
4)I’m from Peachtree City and therefore own multiple golf carts. Can I bring my own cart? – Absolutely!
5)What if I have never shot a shotgun in my life? – You will probably be in good company; we are not expecting the Olympic sporting clays team to be in attendance that day. Come down and make some noise with us even if you can’t hit a target! We will receive professional instructions from the plantation staff before the shoot. This will be a great opportunity to introduce yourself to the sport in a low-pressure setting.
6)What if I don’t own a shotgun? – You can rent one at the course, or you can share one with someone in your group. Or better yet, it’s a great opportunity to justify buying one!
7)Who can shoot? – Anyone. You are welcome to bring your kids if you feel they are old enough to shoot and practice proper gun safety. If so, they will have a blast! Anyone under 18 must be under direct supervision of an adult.
8)Where is the course? – The shoot is being hosted for us by Big Red Oak Plantation in Gay, GA. Put it in your GPS, and it will take you right to it. If you are not a GPS user - take Hwy 85 south to Gay, GA and take a right at the traffic light. The gate to the plantation will be 2 miles down on your left. It is about 35 minutes south of Peachtree City.
9)When is this FIRST EVER shoot? – It’s on Friday, November 10, 2017. Registration is from 8:00 – 9:00AM, and shooting begins at 9:30AM sharp! We promise to have you finished in time for lunch. We’ll be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs afterward.
10)How much does it cost, and what does that cover? - $150/shooter, and it includes
- 100 clay pigeons
- 100 shotgun shells (you can bring your own if you prefer. 7-1/2 shot or smaller)
- Lunch
11)What if I don’t like guns? – No problem – Sign up as a family or corporate sponsor, and we won’t even make you come to the shoot (but you can if you like). It’s a fund raiser, so here are the sponsorship levels:
