System-Wide Accessibility Weekly Update

For week of Sunday 8/29/10-Saturday 9/4/10

General:

·  Toured MBTA system with Richard Devydler, Senior Advisor on Accessible Transportation at US-DOT

·  Met with Design & Construction and the Law Department to ensure compliance of accessibility ramp at 53 State Street.

·  Participated in the Accessible Transportation Forum hosted by the Disability Law Center and the Institute for Human Centered Design

·  Met with Judge King and Green Line personnel to discuss automated stop announcement system

·  Met with Operations Support to discuss Elevator Maintenance & Uptime

·  Participated in Webinar on DOJ's Updated ADA Regulations and Standards for US Access Board.

·  Attended MassDOT Roundtable Meeting

·  Represented MBTA at monthly meeting of the Access Advisory Committee to the MBTA (AACT)

·  Developed content for signs to be posted next to out of service elevators detailing directions to next closest elevator and/or alternate service plan

·  Edited and uploaded additional photos to draft on-line Access Guide

Design and Engineering:

·  Meetings

o  Met with Design & Construction discuss status of changes to Maverick Station

Customer and Employee Complaints:

·  Tracked 13 customer complaints; 7 forwarded to Office of Diversity & Civil Rights (ODCR) for investigation

Internal Access Monitoring Program:

·  9 Monitors conducted 54 trips throughout all of fixed route system (48 Bus; 5 Subway; 1 Commuter Rail)

·  Continued revising the IAM handbook

·  Continued generating text for Internal Monitoring Reports

·  Continued developing the Internal Monitor training guide

·  Reviewed 60 completed monitoring forms

·  Scanned 40 completed monitoring forms

·  Conducted two training sessions (2 ½ hrs ea.) for new monitoring staff

·  Created 2 reports consisting of results from the IAM program’s Q3-2010

·  Issued 1 report concerning serious violations committed against monitors

·  Began developing new Commuter Rail monitoring form for mini-high boarding

Reduced Fare CharlieCard Program Activity

·  Issued 1390 reduced-fare CharlieCards:

o  810 Senior CharlieCards

o  551 Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCards

o  17 Blind Access CharlieCards

o  12 “THE RIDE” CharlieCards

·  Reviewed 265 Transportation Access Pass CharlieCard applications

·  Processed 243 account deposits for customers of the MBTA Paratransit program THE RIDE

·  Responded to 400 customer phone inquiries
