Forrest Mitchell Appointed TJJD Chief Inspector General

The Board of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) today announced the appointment of Forrest Mitchell as the agency’s Chief Inspector General. TJJD Board Chairman Scott Fisher announced the hiring at the Board’s March 24, 2017, scheduled meeting in Austin.

“The Board was pleased that more than 60 applicants applied for this very important position,” Fisher said. “We reviewed an exceptionally qualified field of candidates and I believe Forrest is the most qualified person to lead our Office of Inspector General going forward. I’m confident he will bring a new level of innovation to the agency.”

Mitchell has served with the Law Enforcement Division of the Texas Office of Attorney General since 1997. In his most recent position, he served as a Major in the Law Enforcement Division, providing executive level leadership and guidance to the Division’s law enforcement officers, auditors, analysts and civilian support personnel. He has developed strategic plans and procedures for the Division, provided specialized training to law enforcement throughout the state, and coordinated investigative initiatives and efforts in multiple task forces in Texas. He has supervised criminal investigations, participated in special operations throughout the state, provided testimony in state and federal courts, and managed the Special Investigation Unit. He also served as the INTERPOL liaison for the State of Texas.

He holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Criminal Justice from Texas State University. In addition, in 2008 Mitchell graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quatico, Virginia, and in 2011 he graduated from the Leadership Command College of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston State University. He began his law enforcement career as a Deputy with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department from 1992-1997.
