Good Morning!February16th2016
T.W.I.K. Notes:
Thanks for an Awesome Valentine’s Party and all of the yummy gifts!
There is a Spirit Wear Day this Wednesday!
Please be sure that your child is putting their first and last name on all homework!
February 25th are conferences. The students will end the trimester on February 26th. If I met with you in October and I don’t request to see you, then a conference at this time is completely up to You! I am happy to meet with anyone and if that date doesn’t work for you, please email me and I’ll see what I can do!
Feb 29th-March 1st Book Fair
Thanks to the parents who send a change of shoes on Boot Days!
Math
We have taken our assessment over Topic 7 and will begin Topic 8 on Wednesday. Topic 8 is on Geometry. Students will be learning about the difference between 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. They will also be learning the names of the 3-D shapes!
Language Arts
We have been talking about blends and diagraphs in class. In case you may wonder, a blend holds on to both letters’ identities and a diagraph creates a whole different sound. The diagraph we are studying now is mainly the “h” brothers, but I thought I would send a description, just in case!
Blend= B+L=BL Diagraph t + h =The new sound
There are only a few sounds left for Jolly Phonics and they are all abnormal sounds or long vowel sounds. I will be focusing more to see if they have learned the basic sounds before I move onto long vowel sounds and bossy “r”!
Students will be doing some phonemic assessments to be sure they are ready to move on. These will just be a part of class and are not really anything you can prepare them for!
Handwriting
These are the letters we have accomplished and the students should be writing them with complete accuracy at home and at school!
L l I i L l T t O o A a
D d C c E e F f J j G g U u
S s, B b , p P, R r, N n, M m, H h, V v, Y y, W w and Kk
This will be our last week in our handwriting book and the students will have a chance next week to show me how well they know all of their letters!

The planets are finished and ready to be hung! They did not go very smoothly, but I’m very glad that everyone will have one to bring home!
