HOW DO I BECOME A “CERTIFIED” TENNIS OFFICIAL

1. Be a current USTA member. 2. Have a correctable 20/20 vision. 3. Take/pass an “Open-book Test.

4. Submit to a Background Check. 5. Attend a Missouri Valley/Oklahoma District Tennis Official's School.

5. Contact your District Chairman to learn about upcoming schools and officiating opportunities.

6. Work the required days/events at the level you wish to be certified.

2013 USTA School Announcement

1.ALL tests can be found 'online' in the USTA Official website (usta.com) and are to be taken, open book, PRIOR to coming to class. The book to use is the 2013 Friend at Court.

a.Test Answer Sheets would be handed in upon arrival at the school. No test will be given in the classroom.

b.The USTA Official test has 100 questions, the Referee test has 70 questions, the ITA test has 54 questions, and the Provisional Test has 60 questions.

c.The test is taken ‘online’, and, when you click the ‘submit’ button, it is graded immediately.

d. If you did not take the test 'online' and bring in the answer sheet before attending the class, you will be asked to leave and to attend another school when you have completed the test.

2. “Saturday” Schools

a. Consists of a USTA Officials(Advanced) school, an ITA school, and a Referee school.

b, For Experienced Officials: certified for 3 or more years.

c. Generally, all 3 schools will be held on the same day – Saturday.

d. If you seek certification as a “Roving” official, you MUST attend the Referee School.

3. “Sunday” Schools

a. Consists of a USTA Officials school.

b. For NEW and Less Experienced Officials: certified for 2 or fewer years.

c. Only NEW officials many take the “Provisional” test.

d. Generally held on one day – Sunday.

A new or less experienced Official would be permitted to attend any of the “Saturday” Schools, if approved by the District Chairman.

4. “Roving” Certification

a. Any Official seeking a “Roving” certification, MUST attend the Referee school.

5. Pre-Registrations are required for schools.

a. Registration forms are attached and shall be sent to the District Chairman by the deadline dates mentioned

on the application.

2013 OFFICIALS SCHOOLS SCHEDULE:

Dates and locations have been set for 2013 re-certification schools and officials schools in the Oklahoma District that will be taught by Francis Baxter.

Tests are open-book and can be found ‘on-line’ at the USTA website (usta.com) and are to be taken PRIOR to coming to class. Test answer sheets will be handed in upon arrival to the class. No tests will be given during the class period. The USTA Officials Test has 100 questions; the ITA Test has 54 questions, the Referee test has 70 questions, and the *Provisional test has 60 questions. Answers are based on information found in the 2013 Friend at Court. Download the tests and answer sheets at the usta.com website, click on “Get Involved”, then click on “Officials”.

*Provisional test can ONLY be taken by NEW Officials. It is recommended that a new official, also, take the USTA Officials Test.

Printed material must be prepared, therefore Pre-registration is essential. A Registration Form is included. Also, lunch is being provided, so we need to know how many to serve.
