Work Placements in the Goethe Pruefungszentrum

Duties

Placements offered by the Goethe Pruefungszentrum may involve the following kinds of work:

• clerical and administrative duties (including photocopying)

• cataloguing and filing
• preparation of teaching and learning materials
• invigilation of tests
• project assistance
• native speaker assistance in the classroom
• translation
• conversation classes with students

• marking of student work
• scanning
• researching and locating resources

• preparation of worksheets for students

You will not be expected to exercise sole responsibility for the teaching of classes.

The Goethe Institute Prüfungszentrum has 1 full-time and 5 part-time members of teaching staff, plus 1 support staff. You may be asked to assist any of them, at the discretion of the Head of Department (Dr.Jutta Grub)

Hours/Length of Placement

The precise number of hours you will be expected to work will vary according to the nature of your placement, but you should expect to spend not less than 25 hours and not more than 30 hours per week in the Goethe Prüfunszentrum. (The normal working hours for placement students are 11am-6pm.)
We are sorry but we cannot accept placement students in January, July and August.

Training/Office Space

The Goethe Prüfungszentrum will normally provide training for any specialized task you are asked to undertake. You may also have access to a networked computer.

Usually prices vary between £70 and £80 per week including bills for water, electricity and heating. Nice areas to live in and which are also near to the university are Fallowfield, Withington, City Centre, Didsbury or Hulme.

Candidates

Successful German native speakers for a work placement in the Goethe Pruefungszentrum should have:

• a university level education
• a good working knowledge of English
• an interest in language learning and teaching
• good IT skills, including the ability to use the Internet
• good interpersonal, team-working, organisational and communication skills
• a sense of responsibility and a capacity for initiative

Please state in your letter the dates between which you are available and give an outline of the kind of assistance you think you can provide. Your curriculum vitae should contain full details of your education and training to-date, any employment history, and one professional reference. Please also indicate if there is any aspect of your health that is of relevance to your application for a placement.
