LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
We often ask is this a sin or is that a sin. A particular thing may not be a sin within itself, however when it causes us to take our focus off God and put it on something else it quickly can become a sin. I once ask a grandmother if she loved her grandchild and she quickly said yes. I ask her if it was a sin and she said certainly not. I called to her attention if you love members of your family more than you love God it becomes a sin. Her response was that anything could become a sin if we put it before God. This is exactly right. This world is full of things that we can and do put before Godwith some it is sports, with others it is hunting. There are thousands of things that we can letpush God slowly out of our lives.
We are sojourners in this world. This world is not our home but eternity is our final abode. Our job here is to follow the master and to carry His word. We are to witness and to be a witness through our daily lives as well as telling others. Our dress can be a stumbling block to others when we dress like the world, look like the world and sound like the world. Except we follow the master who will follow us?
1 Chr 29:15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
