Message from Bob DeWerff

I recently started hearing a new word being used in Washington political jargon. A plan was being described as “aspirational” and not “operational.” The goal is to distinguish plans that are intended for implementation but are not yet ready because of a number of factors. “Community in Unity” is the theme for the upcoming academic year. At this point our theme is aspirational and not operational. Making our theme operational will require our prayers, hard work, commitment, willingness to sacrifice, and a passion for serving our students and our colleagues. While making our theme operational may seem like a daunting task, we have a source of transforming power available to us because our service at Concordia is in the context of the Christian Gospel. May God bless our aspiration to be a Community in Unity!

8. News from the Faculty Senate Stay Informed! http://concordia.csp.edu/FacultySenate

§  Faculty Senate approved the revised academic integrity policy (Policy 6.87 Academic Integrity) on December 13, 2006. This policy was revised to provide clarity for both students and faculty regarding academic integrity issues.

Two forms were developed to clarify the documentation process. These forms, found on the Academic Affairs web page, include the Academic Incident Allegation Report and the Appeal of Academic Dishonesty Charge.

Faculty members complete portions of the Academic Incident Allegation Report form before discussing the allegation with the student. Faculty members bring this form and a blank copy of the Appeal of Academic Dishonesty Charge form when discussing the academic integrity issue with the student. Faculty members will provide the student with a copy of the Academic Incident Allegation Report and Appeal of Academic Dishonesty Charge form. Another copy of the Academic Incident Allegation Report, with student signature, is then submitted by the faculty member to the Academic Affairs Office.

9. All-University Honors Program Revisions

1) Complications resulting from the new daily schedule led to the adoption of a hybrid instructional model for the Honors Courses. Instead of meeting 1:00-2:50 MTWR, the courses will meet 7:00-9:50pm M with remaining work done in small group activities and through online work.

2) Fiscal constraints coupled with a lower number of initial applications led to a decoupling of the annual sequence. The curriculum is restructured into “reflective” and “practical” years. Both classes will meet together and the curricular years will alternate. This adjustment was approved by the UAPC.

A Curriculum in Faith and Learning: The All-University Honor Program at Concordia Saint Paul

The All-University Honors Program in Faith and Learning consists of a concentrated course of study (8 credits person semester) over a two-year period. One year of study is reflective, challenging students to think critically and to be attentive to voices often marginalized. The other year focuses on practice, discovering and applying student gifts and talents to the needs of the world.
