National Christian Schools Basketball Championships
This year’s team is comprised of 69 students, with 45 males and 24 females. The schools represented are Flinders, Oxley, Waverley, Belgrave Heights, Heathdale, Flinders (Carrum Downs) and Maranatha. All Christian schools in Victoria were invited to nominate their students for the tournament and you can be commended on making it through the selection process and now being part of the Victorian team to compete in Adelaide.
Age divisions for this year’s championships are Under 14, Under 16 and Open for both Boys and Girls matches.
Travel
The trip to and from Adelaide will be with US Buslines and we have two coaches for the week. For the sake of teacher’s sanity, you will be expected to travel on the same bus for the duration of the week. Buslists will be sent to your schools shortly. Please make sure that you always travel in that bus so that we are not looking for you. The buses are touring coaches with toilets and TV/video facilities. Please travel as light as possible. As well as your basketball gear, you will need to bring some casual clothes and some comfortable clothes for travelling. We have also planned an outing to the Snow Dome in Adelaide which will require some warm clothes in which you can ski/skate and toboggan. The Championship dinner on the Friday night is not a black tie affair (casual clothes is fine) and we will be returning to Melbourne as soon as the dinner concludes. A good sized backpack to take on the bus is necessary for travel gear as there will be times when we will not have access to the main luggage.
Accommodation
We will be staying at the Adelaide Shores Caravan Resort in Glenelg. We have the use of 5 or 6 berth cabins which each contain TV, heaters and refrigerator with a shared toilet block close by. You must bring your own sleeping bag (or doona), pillow and towel. Plates, bowls, cups and cutlery are all provided in the cabins. Please note that your usual school rules apply to this tournament. You are not permitted in any other cabin except your own. You must also keep the cabins clean and any damage incurred will be the responsibility of the inhabitants. . The good news is that in each cabin there is one double bed and two bunk beds. We suggest that the largest person in each room be given the double bed (or maybe the most responsible and accountable person). There is a games room and swimming pool on site and we will have a Victorian meeting place designated on site also which gives you plenty of chances to catch up with Victorian teammates. Provisional cabin lists are included in this booklet but they may change in the next three weeks.
Uniform
All team members will be supplied with a Championship t-shirt, cap and a Victorian team warm-up top. Playing uniforms will also be supplied but they are on loan and must be returned. Members are asked to bring navy blue or black tracksuit pants to complement the Victorian tops.
