Job Title: Senior Residential Care Officer (SRCO)
Accountable To: Registered Manager
Overall Job Purpose:
- To support people living in their own homes to develop and maintain their skills to live independent and fulfilled lives.
- To ensure the support provided meets the needs of the service user and promotes individual rights, choice, independence.
Scope of the Job:
- SRCO are required to work as part of a team covering a 24 hour period to meet the individual needs of the service user.
- Attend regular reviews and where required regular service user reviews.

1. Support Work Duties
- Be committed to the values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Assist to provide services which are needs-led in line with individual service aims and objectives.
- Follow care plans, support plans and risk assessments.
- Encourage individuals to take an active role in daily living.
- Encourage and support individual lifestyles which facilitate the spiritual, physical, psychological, cultural and social needs of the person being supported.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation is accurately completed.
- Reporting any service user and/or service needs to the manager.
- Carry out domestic duties and household tasks within the individual’s home i.e.
a)General cleaning duties, to include cleaning / dusting / vacuuming / polishing.
b)Bed-making.
c)Clearing refuse and rubbish.
d)Laundering / Hand-washing / ironing / light needlework, as required.
e)Fuel/Budget Management.
f)Shopping, and the preparation of shopping lists and assistance with budgeting.
g)Light gardening tasks.
- To undertake meal preparation and serving of meals ensuring safety measures are in place and adhered to and providing assistance with feeding if required.
- Be responsible for and support service users with all aspects of a household nature.
- To provide support to people with their personal care needs which will include all their day-to-day personal support and health care needs.i.e.
a)Dressing and undressing .
b)Washing / bathing / showering / shaving / grooming / cleaning teeth.
c)Hair care (washing / brushing).
d)Nail care (fingernails only).
e)Toileting and all aspects of personal hygiene.
f)Continence management.
g)Care of pressure sores (under appropriate nursing supervision).
h)Getting in and out of bed.
i)Assisting with the use of Aids to Daily Living / Rehabilitation Aids, as required.
j)Helping with rehabilitation programmes, as prescribed by Healthcare professionals.
k)Day / evening / night sitting services, as required
l)assisting the client to take prescribed medication
- Provide assistance with personal finances, to include paying bills, budgetary management, personal planning (birthdays / anniversaries etc), democratic rights (voting cards etc).
- Undertaking all training relevant to meet the individual needs of the service user.
- Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Carry out all duties in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all other relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Report any risks, incidents, accidents illnesses or occurrences which may affect the safety of service users and/or staff.
- To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service users.
- To undertake duties which are delegated which are within the competence experience level of the staff member.
- To follow a person centred planning approach, including consultation and involvement of the service user.
- Ensure confidentiality of service user information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Percy Hedley Foundation’s organisational policy.
- To communicate effectively within the workplace, the team and the organisation.
- Ensure that all communication with service users is in a language and format that meets individual needs.
- To assist service users with support and guidance with regard to healthy living.
- Where applicable follow agreed medication procedures.
- Support people to access community facilities i.e church, leisure facilities and utilise public transport.
- Protect the rights and promote the independence of service users.
- Support service users to control their lives and make informed choices.
- Promote equality and respect diversity, culture and values of individuals.
- Ensure that relevant colleagues are informed of any implications of any risk assessments carried out.

- To only carry out duties within sphere of competence and only carry out agreed duties.
- Supervisory Duties
- To ensure the effective day to day supervision of support staff and Residential Care Officers under your shift/supervision.
- To ensure the operational continuity and quality of service user care.
- To participate in staff training including “on the job” and induction training as may be required to enhance and underpin the skills of your staff team.
- Conduct service user assessments and care reviews ensuring that support plans remain accurate and up to date.
- Conduct staff performance appraisals as required.
- Act as the primary point of contact for staff under your direction.
- To maintain such records as may be required.
- To assist in such other duties which may be required from time to time as are deemed necessary and commensurate with the role and position.
- At all times to act in such a way as to promote the best interests and reputation of the company.
- To participate in the “On Call” Duty Rota and provide advice and guidance to support staff as required.
- To act as a shift leader and ensure sufficient cover is available.
- To contribute to implementing the Quality Assurance Policy and Operational Business Objectives.

Person Specification- Senior Residential Care Officer
Category / Essential / DesirableEducation/
Qualifications / NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care.
LDAF/LDQ Induction units ( where relevant)
Be responsible for maintaining and keeping records of CPD.
First Aid Training
Moving & Handling Training
Health & Safety Training
Food Safety Training / NVQ 2 Team Leading or willing to work towards.
Minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or L1 key skills Application of number and communication.
Mandatory training courses attended.
Risk Assessment Training
Skills and Abilities / Effective communication skills including report writing, recording and verbal communication.
An understanding of non verbal communication.
Ability to work as part of a team.
To provide personal care with dignity and respect. / Delivering personal care to individuals.
Good understanding and appreciation of the needs of people with a disability
Ability to carry out care needs assessments and devise support plans
Experience / Experience working in the care setting (either paid or voluntary)
