MARY’S HOMES INFORMATION SHEET
Mary’s Homes are scattered site single family homes in Greensboro for homeless mothers in recovery from addiction issues and their children. Mary’s Homes is a joint project of Mary’s House, Greensboro Housing Authority. Mary’s Homes are permanent homes with no time limit for residency. The Greensboro Housing Authority will provide a voucher for the rent of the selected home. We have approval for two bedrooms, three bedrooms and four bedrooms anywhere in Greensboro where the landlord will accept the voucher.
To be eligible for admission to Mary’s Homes:
· Must be female 21 and over
· Must be homeless by HUD definition
· Must have a primary diagnosis of substance abuse
· Must be pregnant or have children of any age (thru college) who are going to live with mother.
· Must be willing to reside in Greensboro
· Must be willing and motivated to change their life and be sober
· Must be in good standing with the Housing Authority if a former resident of the Housing Authority
· Must not have a drug criminal conviction within the last 3 years
(We can ask for an exception to this issue with HUD)
How to apply for admission:
· Go to website at www.maryshousegso.org and click on application. Select the portion for Mary’s Homes.
· Fill out the application and complete letter for requesting admission.
Return letter and application to Mary’s Homes’ office at 1113 H East Wendover, Greensboro, N. C. 27405.
· Case Manager will schedule a face to face interview and assist with paperwork for Mary’s Homes and the Greensboro Housing Authority.
· Applicant will need to complete additional paperwork and attend meetings at the Greensboro Housing Authority.
· Once approved for a voucher, applicant will find a suitable residence with the help of the case manager.
Important Facts:
· There are no fees for admission to Mary’s Homes
· Children of any age can live with the mother.
· We can provide vouchers to at least 32 families at one time
· We pre-screen for violence, major psychiatric disorders, and an unwillingness to change.
· We have a full time case manager for these homes. Services will include job placement, drug testing, parenting classes, random visits to the home at least twice a month, 12 step meetings, substance abuse counseling, group therapy, transportation and assistance with any services needed by the children of the residents.
· We will cooperate with any safety plan for the children.
· Residents are not under 24 hour supervision but sign a contract regarding acceptable behaviors. Only approved residents can reside in the homes. Residents must exhibit a willingness to cooperate with case manager and to be sober.
