Silent Auction Donor:

The 2008 festival will be an historic event. The dock, ramp and lift will be installed this spring which should allow public access into the lighthouse. Great Lake’s musician, Lee Murdock will sing his new Toledo Lighthouse song and plans and specifications for the lighthouse restoration are underway. We need your help to continue with the progress to preserve and restore the Toledo Lighthouse. The Toledo Lighthouse is 4000 square feet and stands 64’ out of the water. Society has approval from the US Department of Interior to own the lighthouse. The architectural firm of Duket Porter is preparing plans and specification for lighthouse restoration.

The Toledo Lighthouse is located about five miles off the shores of Maumee Bay State Park and is visible from the shore on most days (binoculars provide a better view). The Toledo Lighthouse introduces the Toledo shipping channel and is the gateway from Lake Erie thru Maumee Bay to the Maumee River. The Romanesque lighthouse design includes a steel roof built like an upside down boat hull. The 4000 square foot buff brick lighthouse is three stories with an annex and a three story tower. The phantom of the Toledo Lighthouse is Sarah who can be seen in the third story window.

This year’s waterfront festival features : Great Lakes Singer and Songwriter Lee Murdock, Surfin/Beachboys music by the Bonker’s plus Buffet music by McCarthy, Maumee Community Band and other island music. There will be fireworks after the Saturday night concert, a lighthouse photo contest, and a magician. Businesses and families will compete in a Lighthouse Sand sculpting contest on the inland beach. The festival features nautical arts and crafts, tours are planned for in the lighthouse, food, children’s activities and more. The festival will be marketed in newspapers & television event sections, yacht clubs, and lighthouse publications. All festival exhibits and functions are carefully screened to maintain festival integrity and quality.

All proceeds, net of festival costs, go toward historic preservation and restoration of the lighthouse. The Society is a nonprofit 501c3 tax exempt organization headquartered at Maumee Bay State Park’s Lodge.
