FRONT END MANAGER
PURPOSE: Manage all aspects of the Front End Department. Supervise Assistant Front End Managers, Front End Trainer, Front End Coordinators, Cashiers and Baggers.
REPORTS TO:Store Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise front end staff. Coordinate performance evaluations and recommend compensation. Take disciplinary action as needed, following established policies.
- Hire qualified staff with approval of Store Manager and ensure on-the-job training. Maintainfront end training manuals.
- Ensure that the front-end hours are scheduled within payroll budget.
- Organize and facilitate front end, customer service and front end coordinator meetings.
- Ensure prompt, friendly, helpful customer service from front end staff.
- Ensure that registers and scales are maintained by coordinating efforts with Accounting/IT staff. Develop and maintain a program of constant improvement of register software and systems.
- Ensure front end staff are aware of changes in store policies and procedures.
- Establish and ensure secure opening, closing and security procedures for front end staff.
- Establish tasks for cashiers/baggers when there are no customers to check out.
- Ensure staff works in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
- Attend Management Team meetings.
- Ensure sound mechanical/maintenance of the front end area: entrance doors, water closet, registers, grounds keeping, general cleaning.
- Ensure accuracy and security of all cash received through front end.
- Support the Store Manager’s goals and agenda.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong formal manager experience including hiring, training, evaluating and performance evaluation.
- Experience developing systems and procedures.
- Experience serving the public.
- Ability to handle multiple demands calmly.
- Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
- Excellent communications skills: good listening, giving clear instructions, facilitation and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership ability.
- Experience working with a budget.
- Familiarity with natural foods and knowledge of trends in the natural foods industry.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Consistent use of hands including simple grip and fine fingering manipulation
- Corrected vision to enable reading of small print
- Frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, bending, twisting and rotating
- Clear spoken English and ability to perceive spoken voice clearly
