Children’s Therapeutic Service for Schools
Providing therapy for children and young people, and consultation services and training for staff
‘The professionals that Family Action offer are experienced and engaging and, most importantly, always willing to adapt their [work and] timetables to meet the needs of the school. The service is professional, simple and effective.’ / About our service
The Children’s Therapeutic Service aims to support some of society’s most vulnerable children and young people by helping to develop their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
In doing so we also aim to help reduce the need for long-term and cost intensive responses from health and social care.
Through this spot purchase service we offer a range of creative and talking therapies across the West and East Midlands, includingdrama therapy, art therapy, integrative therapy, humanistic therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Supporting children and young people
We offer individually tailored therapeutic support for children and young people aged 5 to 18 who:
  • have experienced trauma through loss, neglect or abuse, including Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)
  • are adopted or on a Special Guardianship Order (SGO)
  • are using sexually abusive behaviour.
Working with schools
We offer a bespoke package of support to meet the needs of individual schools. A therapist might, for example, be on a school site for a day a week during term-time to provide:
  • one-to-one support to a child
  • group work
  • a drop-in clinic
  • staff training and support.
/ Our experience
All our therapists are highly skilled, experienced and registered with relevant professional bodies. They have an enhanced DBS check, and undertake regular clinical
and casework supervision.
The service is registered with Ofsted as an Adoption Support Agency, and has been awarded a ‘good’ rating.
